 Re: Off Topic 2011

 If you make the 2 in the original equation a variable, X, your answer 288 is incorrect. It breaks the original equation.

 48/x(9+3)=288
 48/12x=288
 4/x=288
 4=288x
 4/288=x
 x=1/72

 x(1/72) does not equal x(original 2) for y=288

 48/x(9+3)=2
 4/2=x
 x=2
 x(2) equals x(original2) for y=2

 But I really dont care. F math!Comment

 Re: Off Topic 2011

 The point was, the way that equation was originally set up, multiplication and division has to be done from left to right. Knowing that:If you make the 2 in the original equation a variable, X, your answer 288 is incorrect. It breaks the original equation.

 48/x(9+3)=288
 48/12x=288
 4/x=288
 4=288x
 4/288=x
 x=1/72

 x(1/72) does not equal x(original 2) for y=288

 48/x(9+3)=2
 4/2=x
 x=2
 x(2) equals x(original2) for y=2

 But I really dont care. F math!

 48/x(9+3)=288
 48 / x * 12 = 288 ; parentheses
 48 / x = 24 ; divide by 12
 48 = 24 x ; multiply by x
 2 = x ; divide by 24

 So, yeah, what OSUFan was arguing is correct.Comment
