I'm just starting out so I went with the easiest level (rookie) for both hitting and pitching. I usually do that with a new game until I start to get the hang of it, then gradually bump it up a couple notches. Only thing I adjusted was CPU pitch speed because I was having a helluva time reading balls/strikes.

Considering that I'm using rookie level pitching difficulty and still gave up 14 runs and 8 bombs just shows you how god awful I am at pitching

Hmm, for what it's worth I started out at Veteran (or whatever the "normal" level is).

I know my first game I got slaughtered by the Red Sox using the Jays in a similar way. I've been getting better at pitching game by game though, so just keep playing and you should be alright.

I've been playing the Show since '06. I started out on HOF. I lost my first 18 games or so. Mostly blow outs.

haha Yankees. It's the fielding for me. Learning the mechanics has proven to be quite challenging. I actualy love it. But, I'm playing other games now, waiting for the patch before I dive back into it again.

Just played a 9 inning game against the Yankees and lost 14-13. Teams combined for 36 hits, including 15 home runs (seriously). Also combined for 21 strikeouts.

I can't pitch for **** on this game. Maybe it's because I played 2k10 last year and it was very easy to hit my spots, but even when I nibble the corners the ump squeezes me like crazy. I don't want to turn the ump slider to perfect calls every time but man this is nuts.

edit: I must be a slow typer... when I began this post no one had said anything in over an hour, by the time I clicked send 4 new posts went through!
Reminds me of my experience with MVP 04. I couldn't pitch to save my life either and I remember there was one game I gave up 12, yes 12, HR's. I also couldn't hit for power either. I got to about the All-Star break before giving up and my leading HR hitter had a whoping 5.

Coincidentally (or not), that was the last baseball game I ever bought.

This is pretty much every 2K baseball game I ever bought. I thought I was a pretty good pitcher because the only way they scored was on home runs. However, once they hit one, they didn't stop, they would just hit bombs the rest of the game. And if I ever hit a home run I was running a victory lap around my living room.

The thing I struggle with is plate discipline. I've gotten a lot better since my first game, but I'm still not great and at times awful.

I can't believe you started out on HOF with your first game. I don't think I've ever even considered that with any game (sports and non-sports).

Only games I started on the hardest mode from scratch were Gears of War 1 and Infamous

                            I haven't beaten Infamous yet.
