 Re: Off Topic 2011

I interviewed with a full beard for the accounting job I have now. As long as it's clean, it's fair game. Then again, beards are more common around these parts.

They'll probably ask you what your experience is with stuff you'll be doing on the job. For a staff accountant position, that would probably be things like reconciliations and general ledger type stuff.

Also, the questions that always seem to put you on the spot are if they ask you for specific examples of things from previous jobs or school. So be ready for that.Comment

I figure it won't be anything out of the ordinary, still kind of nervous since this is the first interview I've had and don't want to blow it.

I'm glad I had the foresight to take an interviewing class as one of my electives, definitely helps figuring out what questions to ask them. Speaking of which, how should salary/benefits be brought up?

On a first interview, I don't bring it up. My last interview, the interviewer did bring up benefits, so I asked some questions about it.Thanks.

The way I see it, you're there to make an impression. I don't want to be the guy that looks like I'm only there for a paycheck.Rose City 'Til I Die

That's what I was thinking, just wanted to make sure.

At least I have something to look forward to instead of just LA Noire, haha.

 Re: Off Topic 2011

If you want to know, ask it at the end when they ask if you have any questions. I've been on both sides of the interview table. Personally, I don't care either way if a candidate asks. I also have only given and had interviews where there was only one interview before the selection was made.Thanks.

I'm sure you know this already, but wear a suit and do some research about the company.Comment

 Re: Off Topic 2011

It's a pretty small firm from what I can tell - their staff page only has 4 people listed (bookkeeper, staff accountant, firm administrator, and then the head CPA) and I talked to two of the four today when I set up my interview. It seems like a pretty straight forward firm, offering accounting, payroll, tax , management, and consulting services.

I will probably play it safe and go clean-shaven and with the tried and true white shirt and red tie combo.

What are some good questions to ask other than asking specifically about the work environment and asking why the interviewer themselves decided to work for the company and what they enjoy most about working there.
