I'm a middle school coach, we run a wing T. Very simple offense w/ simple terminology. A parent came up to us in the middle of last season and suggested we switch to the spread.

Nvm the fact that a lot of spreads run wing t concepts, but yea we'll switch a simple system your dumb *** kid is yet to understand to a potential difficult system, in the middle of the season.

    I loath dealing w/ parents.

Any sport Involving young kids and parents is a mess. My dad was a coach of a little league team way back, they went undefeated and won the League Championship, yet it seemed every single parent thought they knew how to coach better.

Football honestly isn't all that bad up here. Baseball and basketball are the annoying sports.

I have one tip to anybody who ever umpires at the Little League level. Try and get as many higher age group games as you can. They are 10 times easier and it seems like the older the kid the more the parent has calmed down.
Yep, I was glad I did well enough with the lower age group so early on when I was an umpire that I got bumped up to the older kids. Though I had a problem with one coach in particular in the 6th or 7th grade league. But I already mentioned that story. It was great actually having the crowd cheer for me during the argument though.

That was what I hated about the lower leagues, eventually you forget how many times you've called a pitch a ball during an at bat because you're so bored. Plus you start to feel like a dick somewhat for never calling a strike. There was one kid in the lower leagues who was throwing heat (for whatever age group it was) though. That was probably the quickest game I ever did.

Guarantee the only thing that guy knew was that you spread the receivers out more in a Spread O. Wing T is a good basic offense for kids. Hell, there's a high school who runs it up here that is probably top 3 at running it in the nation.

We run a variation on the spread at my old high school, so in middle school what the coaches did was

          6th Grade-Introduce the Wing T only
7th Grade-Add more passes to the Wing T
          8th Grade-Introduce the Shotgun
so that way in the 9th Grade, when we really introduce the spread, they won't be lost as sheep.

At Jr.high the offense ran should be a very similar one to whatever high school it feeds.

When I was in high school we got 2nd in state running the wing-t , one school who used to be awesome ran the wishbone because they won a state title with it 20 years earlier. They've since abandoned that

We do something similar except starting at 7th grade. Hell, there's only about 5 plays we start them off with.

Ran the Wing-t in high school, 51-3 record with 39 straight wins a couple of section titles and a final USA Today ranking of 8th in nation. It's a great offense and if the team is disciplined it's hard to stop, plus were ran our offense at a pace that just wore down other teams. Ah the good old days.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

^^^This team has won 8 of the last 10 State titles in the second highest classification (3A) up here by just running the Wing T. The offense is really great with discipline, but if a team doesn't have that, it may be one of the easiest to stop.

My old high school ran a Multi-style offense. My senior year was really run heavy with a lot of vertical passes mixed in. This past year, they switched it to more of a singleback/spread to better suit the personnel. They came one 2-point conversion short of a spot in the state championship.

I had 4 coaches in 4 years. My Freshman coach left for a better job, the second coach was a jackass who didn't know how to coach, I loved my junior year coach, he was going to turn the program around, but he had family issues that interfered, and he had to step down in the middle of spring practice. He was a GREAT coach, will be, but he only knew the spread so we had to adapt and we were stuck learning the game as we went along.

                      7-3
                      5-5
                      5-5
                      3-7

Next year though, they're predicted to go 8-2 or 7-3 by all the local media.

But also: my Junior year we jumped from 4A to 5A, and the Baton Rouge Area 5A rivals the West NOLA area as the toughest 5A division in the state.

My first three years of high school we had an idiot of a coach that was a firm believer in three yards and a cloud of dust. Those three years we had a record of 12-18. My senior year, we got a new coach that ran the spread. Somehow we lost 3 games that regular season, and went 3-deep in the playoffs, one win away from the state semifinals. Didn't keep up with them much the year after, but last season the kids went 6-4, outscoring their opponents 372-272. I was pretty shocked because their 4 best games they won 52-24, 64-0, 62-28, 50-20. For my school those were ridiculous scores.

Pfttttttt Chicago isn't known for high school football. Seriously they not, which is why everytime a Chicago team make it to the state playoffs against the suburban schools they get blown out.

Mainly due to the fact Chicago football teams are grossly undersized compared to suburban schools. We had defensive linemen that were 5'6 and 5'10. Same thing for the offensive line.

Compare there to to suburban schools that had linemen that were 6'2 and taller weighing 280 and bigger, to our 250 and smaller. Big mismatch.

If you played in Chicago, your goal was to win the City of Chicago championship, because you knew damn well you didn't stand a chance winning the state championship.

Granted this was all 15 and 16 years ago. Maybe Chicago kids have gotten bigger in their football programs. But I know for me as a child growing up, Chicago schools were better known for basketball then football.

You could have just said this. All the best athletes in urban Chicago play basketball. They have produced many big stars and that's who the kids look up to and want to be like.

I sure hope I am never one of those of those Little League parents. They are the worse. It's almost more entertaining to go to little league games and listen to the parents who think they could do such a better job, than actually watching the game.
