    I admit, I don't know what "basic dap" means without googling. But still, just stick out your damn hand and I'll shake it, don't catch me off guard and grab my forearm and then start some circus stunt...
    Lol I dont know about that forearm stuff. Maybe your friends were teasing because they knew you wouldnt know what to do in that situation, since you had to google what a dap was haha.
    dap=fistbump or finger snap.

        Hmm seems like DC has a different definition of dap.

          If someone gives me some weird handshake, I'm kicking you out of my house and I'm dead serious. Do what normal people or what they call a normal "pound".

              king I might need u to give me a lesson lol. I want to know what handshake style is being attempted when the arm is extended. Maybe there is a certain angle the hand and wrist are positioned? I'm sick of just assuming it's a standard "hey how are u" handshake and getting an unwelcome surprise (that sounds bad but u know what I mean).

              We need a handshake etiquette course!

                Once again this may only be a DC thing, but left hand dap is a BIG no no.

                  I'm curious now, was this shake with a stranger in a casual setting? A party? Job interview?

                  I wouldn't care too much. I'd extend a normal handshake for a stranger but if they come up with crazy stuff, I'll rely on my reflexes to make it less awkward, or just ask to do it again as a learning experience.

                      Scroll down a bit on the urbandictionary definitions. lol

                      But yes, my friends much prefer a normal handshake. Always have, honestly.

                        It was a surprise "hey Kevin this is my buddy Adam" scenario when my friend picked me up for beer & nba 2k11 at his house. He (Adam) was with the friend of my buddy's wife as they were on their way out.

                            I'll give the occasional fist pound to some friends, but it depends on what we're doing. If its anything to do with sports than its usually a fist pound.

                              Every time my younger cousin comes over he always tries to do a Blood handshake before he leaves with me. Seriously I get totally lost, it feels as if we are talking in sign language.

                                And If I know you are a friend who is socially awkward I may mess with you and pretend to want to do a ridiculous handshake that is total bs.

                                But yeah in a professional setting and when dealing with proper family men its a firm handshake. When I was little I gave my grandfather a weak handshake and he scolded me and taught me to be firm with it. Never looked back. i really want to shake Adrian Peterson's hand to see what all the talk is about. They say he breaks your hand off every time lol.
