Ok here's part of the Gamestop story. I was running a 1.4-1.7 million dollar store. The fiscal year ends in January, so from Feb-June of 2010, my store was up over ly by a good margin. In fact all of the comp categories we got ranked on, my store was up and ranked in the top 20%. However, my store(a tourist mall) was terrible in reserves and GI subs.
My philosophy was we would not be pushy, ask once, and leave it at that. However, from April-June the store did improve in those categories. Yet in May, my fat arse dm tried to write me up for the "poor" performance. Since it was important in Corp eyes, I asked him on several occasions to come in and help and observe my staff. Yet he never did. So when he tried to write me up, I refused to sign it and he threw a fit about it.
My previous dm was always willing to help out and actually cared about his stores management team. Should have never transferred stores and districts but when someone dangles an extra 8 grand a year, hard to turn down. Plus our annual raise was a percentage of your current salary so it meant a bigger raise each year. Should have known when a friend of mine took that store before me and transferred back out of it after 2 months.
Maybe my thought process is backwards, but if overall sales, used sales, and trade-ins are significantly better than last year, that should mean something. You also can't expect each store to produce the same results. When you rank as much stuff as GS does, someone has to be at the top and bottom. I would understand if we were at the bottom in all or a majority of the categories but I digress.
I am much happier since I left. Not as much stress, and don't have those crazy retail hours. It was nice being able to actually spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with my kids without having to worry about going in at 5AM the next day. I'm also at home now for evenings instead of not being home till between 7-10. That's the most important thing since my kids are now 12,9, and 5.
Other complaints:
-Don't give stores enough hours-My store was getting 85 hrs a week and 40 of those had to go to the assistant manager(College and high school kids want money and can't get it working 7-10 hours a week.)
-Don't pay well to non- management(and some would argue that managers don't get paid that great)new hires were paid minimum wage.
-Got rid of spiffs
-Took away 2 holidays and 3 days of personal time
-Only gave raises 1/yr- So if I hired you in Jan 2010, you would not get a raise til May '11 even if you were doing an awesome job.
And that's just some of it. I could keep going but feel like I've vented enough.S.O.S Crew

I remember my dad's biggest complaint was no overtime pay when he'd work like 50+ hours in the week. The best story I remember of his was on my little sister's 1st Birthday they made him work till 9pm he tried to get off or atleast earlier but his boss told him it'd still be her birthday at 9pm or 10pm.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

My NCAA 11 tale of the night: I'm on the verge of losing my 4th game in a row, so screw you guys who think it's too easy.
Try being a weak Central Michigan team in their first season in the Big 10. I got schedule happy and added #1 Alabama for good measure. I suck, but I have my first great recruiting class coming in, so I should be a serious contender in about 3 years...
additional useless NCAA 11 info: this game against Iowa is ticking me off, 3 minutes into the 1st quarter and their RB has 3 carries for 143 yards and 2 TDs. After the 1st quarter it's 21-0 ... grrrr I used to be good!
edit: is the OVR broken? not that I care what my score is, just curious if it's not working right.Last edited by l3ulvl; 01-13-2011, 02:42 AM.Wolverines Wings Same Old Lions Tigers Pistons Erika ChristensenComment

And to all you guys with losing records, and who lose regularly in NCAA, screw you! It's not fair. I wish I was able to actually have a realistic season for once.
I can't even do a rebuilding job because I'll just easily win the conference my first year anyway.-Ohio State-

Re: Off Topic 2011
Also make me think of my cousin's job at Mercedes except his situation is dumber. He's been there 4 years, gotten promoted 4 times I think, and still only has gotten one partial raise (only gets it every other paycheck). Every other dealership owned by the guy has employees getting raises but this one. They are already understaffed and refuse to hire anyone else, and they have this one guy who is the laziest sack of crap ever working there. That guy happens to get the most vacation days and when someone has to miss a day sick or something, he'll never be the guy to come in. They're also making the job even more difficult by telling them they can't have their cell phones on during the day. They used them to communicate with technicians and the receptionist for stuff related to work. Now they can't do that, and his bosses get mad when things aren't done efficiently. Also throw in the fact their computers are all still running either Windows 95 or 2000 and that doesn't help.
I remember my dad's biggest complaint was no overtime pay when he'd work like 50+ hours in the week.
