Typical GIGGAS and his negative-nancy attitude, when he knows good and well he's qualified to work a job like that :P

Regardless of how it went, that's still a big deal getting an interview like that.

Alright, alright. I felt like it went pretty OK. There was one of the interviews that I blew pretty horribly (I had no idea how to tackle the problem, and I basically just crapped out a terrible, horribly complex, answer that probably doesn't even answer the problem correctly). However, the rest of them seemed pretty decent. I got along with most everyone, and they were all friendly. The highlight of the day for me was when the first person (the recruiter assigned to me) asked me what my current compensation was so she knew what she was working with.

Once I told her, she looked at me like I had 3 heads. I quickly added: "You'd be surprised how far it goes in Blacksburg."

She still stared at me in disbelief. And that is hilarious. Mainly, though, it was sad.

Anyway, as for whether I get the job: Not sure. I know I have some talent, but I don't know if it's enough talent to go to a big company like Amazon. One of the things that the recruiter did tell me is that they were looking for a developer that has good communication skills with coworkers, etc. I like my written communication more than verbal, but I hope I did pretty well there. I feel like I could grow into someone that could be a decent worker at Amazon, so hopefully they see that too.

I feel like I've got a 50/50 shot right now.

This basically sums up The Giggas......

Hides his nervousness and shyness in long complex answers. He makes it rain with words......

I say if they invited you cross country, then you at least got a 90% shot of getting hired. Considering companies don't normally do that unless they are very interested in you.

That would be pretty sweet. It seemed like Amazon was a super cool place to work. It might reduce my posting here during the day though. So someone else can take the #1 spot.

What's a "long period of time?"

5 years? 10 years? The problem I'm running into is that unless I rent in a 'low-income' area, I'll be dirt-poor at the end of the month. I've considered roommates, but nobody I know wants to move out for some reasons (some are more logical than others, but whatever). In my estimation, I can pay a monthly mortgage for less than the typical rent, but obviously the house won't be 'cream of the crop.' Honestly, I'd be happy with a small house that I could fix up and give it some of my personal flair. Not to mention, I'd rather not live in the city or downtown, but happiness isn't necessarily tied to wealth, so I'm stuck.

Hey it is not what it look like on the outside of the house that matters, it is what you do to it, that matters. You don't need a cream of the crop house....You just need something that you can call home.

Right now my family and I are renting a pretty nice attached bungalow for about 1450 a month plus utilities. This isn't too bad but I don't think that kind of pricing would work out for tendrils unless you have roomates.

In my experience of looking for a place to rent it's quite hard to find a good home (clean, well maintained etc etc) and it would probably cost you more.

Then again, I was looking at a 3 bedroom place. I'm not sure what exactly you're looking at.

If you feel like you're ready for a house go for it. Just remember that once you sign the papers, it's yours. And everything else that goes with it. Ideally, you'll want to put down plenty of money on it so that if something does come up career-wise, you'll have plenty of room to work with if you want to sell and move out of the area.

Hey GIGGAS I don't really care about your interview... I want to know if you got to enjoy any of the great restaurants they have there. And don't tell me Quiznos, or Taco Bell.
