Just had to fly out to Melbourne a few days ago for a conference and what a complete **** storm it was.
I was sitting in my seat (I was in the middle, lady from work at the window and an old lady in the aisle seat) and got up to help this old lady get her bag down from the overhead cabin. I put my wallet and kindle in the little pouch thing on the back of the seat in front of me. I get up walk out of the plane and get to the bottom of the stairs to exit the plane and realise that I left my stuff on the plane.
I turn around to go back up and get it and the ground crew lady stops me and says "what's your seat number and what were you missing?". I tell her and apparently she goes up and searches and can't find anything. I was literally only gone for 60 seconds and the stuff has vanished...
They tell me to go wait in the airport where the passengers come in and they will search the plane.
Anyway to cut a longer story short I never got my wallet (with $250 in it) or my kindle back and was basically told tough luck. So I'm stuck in a strange city on the other side of the country with no money, identification or bank cards. Luckily I was on the flight with the lady from work so I was able to borrow a few hundred off her and have my wife transfer money to her account back home but it has been a royal pain in the *** having to cancel all the cards etc etc. Not a fun few days!
So basically either someone else getting of the plane saw my stuff and stole it or it was the ground staff at the airport who went up to look. Unless it was the people sitting directly behind me I don't know how anyone could have seen it as the pouch was black leather and nobody walking past would have been able to see my stuff as it was down out of site. My bet is the ground staff. I placed a lost baggage claim and left my details but that was 5 days ago now and no word.
The moral of the story is that people suck!!!
