    Re: Off Topic 2011

Time for GIGGAS to complain about his situation. Yes, you can tag this with the #firstworldproblems hashtag, thanks for asking.

My fiance will be graduating from college in May. Yes. Finally! I'm VERY excited for her. She's starting to look for jobs in big cities (SEA/SF/NYC/CHI/POR/BOS/etc). I'm hoping she can find a job by January so that I can start looking and be ready when she graduates so we can move. This is great! I love having something to look forward to. I'm acclimating myself to the idea that I won't live in Virginia any more, and while that's sad, I think I can go with the idea.

However, this puts me in a really unhappy situation. I still have a part-time relationship, basically, while she's finishing her studies. I'm still not super happy at work, and I've been looking for other opportunities. At this point, it's ridiculous to look for anything other than a 6-month contract, which I don't want to do. So basically, I've resigned myself to working here for the next 8 months, not getting paid as much as I believe I should be getting paid for two years experience, and basically getting shat on by the other sections of the company.

    I hope you enjoyed!

This is like deja vu......you seem to write this every other month. But I feel your pain though. I always feel like I should be making more, even though I make a lot now.

I don't think you will want to live in Chicago or NYC though. Their cost of living prices will eat you alive. Live in a suburb or small town, work in the city.

Aramis hurt me plus losing Mauer didn't help either. Yeah it was fun, next year the crown is mine.

My fiance wants to reduce our commutes so I will be living in the city. We'll probably only have one car for when we need it, and we'll use public transit.

That being said, I've looked at salaries in larger cities, and I'm looking at a doubling of my pay at least.

My preferences for cities right now are SEA... then everything else, I think. Loved the town, loved the vibe. LOT of opportunities for both of us. Temperate weather.

The current situation sucks but you got a hell of a lot to look forward to in the coming year. Just suck it up, ever now and then you gotta crawl through 500 yards of crap to get to freedom.

So I am now being hunted by internet ad's, I left a gift card in my cart at restaurant.com that I didn't purchase. Well, while I was checking out The Oatmeal there pops up an ad.
