BROWNSTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Police say a Detroit-area man had his 9-year-old daughter drive him to the store because he had apparently been drinking.
Brownstown Township Detective Lt. Robert Grant said Monday the girl was sitting behind the wheel in a child's booster seat before 3 a.m. on Oct. 8 when an officer opened the driver's side door of the full-sized panel van her father uses for work.
Grant tells the Detroit Free Press (http://bit.ly/rkkKKg ) the girl said to the officer: "What did you stop me for? I was driving good."
Someone called police after spotting the pair stopped at a gas station. The caller watched the girl get in the driver's seat and pull the vehicle onto the road.
The father was arrested. He told officers he was teaching his daughter to drive.
I'm not going to lie....in small towns this is quite the norm, the driving young part, not the drinking parents part. Come to Vermont you will see 9 and 10 yr olds driving out here. Heck I was taught how to drive when I was about 10 years old.
My wife's nephew is 13 and drives his dad's truck all the time.Comment

That would be one of the worse things about being a cop. You don't stop being one when you clock off.
Is it hard for you to even drive down the street without seeing things done illegally? I mean are you sitting there going "red ford turned without indicating" "woman J walking" "White Lexus not stopping at stop sign" etc?
I know that sounds ridiculous, but man it's so true. I will never be the same.
Oh and not sure if I mentioned it here...
My neighbor put their house up for rent and Section 8 got ahold of it. The tenant was hit with a dynamic search warrant about a month ago. They were trafficking herion.
Thanks section 8!!!!!!!!
Oh and she pays 10% of what I do: rent vs mortgage monthly payments.
THANK YOU SO MUCH PEOPLE WHO CREATED SECTION 8!!!!!!!

Re: Off Topic 2011
Section 8 helps so many people. I can't stand the "my tax money" argument. You sign up for a social contract when you live in this country. Tax money is no longer "your money" when it comes out of your paycheck.
I could list a lot of things that I'm not happy the government spends money on. Social programs are very far down that list. For every bad example, there's many, many examples of people actually needing the assistance that they receive.
But this probably isn't the best place to talk about this.Comment
