Just got in a debate with a guy in this class. He swears up and down that he can file bankrupt then go to the Chevy dealership and finance a new car.

My argument was that once you file bankruptcy your credit is ****ed and you can't finance a damn thing. Maybe in 10 years you can go try rebuilding your credit, but unless you have a ton of money to support yourself for 10 years, you are screwed.

That's how some people in this word got rich.

I've heard....not clue if it's true....but heard that filing for bankruptcy isn't exactly a bad thing and isn't that difficult to recover from.

He will most likely get financed, though it will be higher than if he hadn't filed for bankruptcy; however, in 2-3 years it will be about the same financing terms as before bankruptcy.

It really depends on the type of bankruptcy. Chapter 7 vs. 13.

My mom filed bankruptcy to get out from under paying for a house she financed and her credit was fried. It's taken her years to rebuild her credit, and for a while they were putting everything in my step dads name. Her credit is back normal now, but it took a long time.
