Presidents day is pointless, IMO. I'm not saying you meant that it was a useful holiday.. just saying I think it's pointless

I didn't even know it was Presidents day until I read this.

That's nothing. When I was an undergrad, we didn't even get Labor day off.

WHAT? You had school on labor day? I thought colleges don't even start until 2nd/3rd week of September?

I wish I had today off. At least today is actually fun. I get to learn a new programming language while I create something in a new paradigm (ok, one I haven't worked on since my first year of college).

Not around here. All the local colleges start the week before Labor day.

It's different everywhere. My brother didn't start the fall semester until the week of the Oklahoma game. When I was at Cookman, I had to report 2nd week of August and school started the next week. At Wayne State, we started the Wednesday before Labor day and still got Labor day off.

I agree. I will never understand why it was made a national holiday.

Of those, we were only off Memorial Day and then the breaks. College was the same way.

Not sure why classes weren't cancelled here... All the grade/middle/high schools in the area are close due to snow, the roads are just horrible and the sidewalks aren't much better. It's been snowing since about 10am yesterday and doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon. And yet somehow no one thinks it's dangerous to have classes...

Heh, sounds like my college (Allegheny College) in Meadville, PA. Classes were never canceled no matter how much it was snowing. Supposedly classes at AC hadn't been canceled since the 1970's when I was there and I have no reason to suspect they may have been canceled at any time since I graduated. Actually, there was this one day my senior year when they supposedly announced on a local radio station that the college closed at 2 PM due to weather. Thing is, nobody on campus knew about that until several days later so IDK what that was about.

I think I had all of those off in HS, but I didn't have today off at my junior college. The school was closed MLK day, but since classes hadn't started yet I suppose that's not a big deal.

Looking at the rest of the calendar, it looks like the school is closed for spring break, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas when classes are in session.

Things that suck: Waiting through all the school closing announcements, seeing "Fox Valley Technical College" pop up, and then seeing "Opens at 12:30pm". My first class is at 2:30pm.
