Well yeah, just not sharing rent in the sense of "I need to because I couldn't afford it otherwise"...it's just the amount we all have to pay.

I'm assuming mid-late August through December, but I'm sure you can sign on for a full academic year.

I wouldn't share a place with more than 1 person. The fewer people you're having to collect $$$ from to pay bills each month, the better. I can't imagine getting 7 other people to give me money to go pay a utility bill every month. That would be a nightmare and late fees would be inevitable.

Not to mention 7 dudes in one place? Personalities clashing, bad habits multiplied, cleanliness and hygene, etc.

That has "moving back home because this isn't working out" written all over that.

Why do even need to move out? You're living at home rent free with no MAJOR responsibilities except for a Cell Phone Bill(assuming this)and working part time. What's the rush?

I'm okay living at home, myself.

It's made it possible for me to put back money for the future (when I finally do move out) and my parents are very laid back. They don't ask for money, outside of my cellphone bill and car insurance (which are both in their name). I pay for my car and I help pay for the internet. Then again, I'm only 21..

I'm glad I experienced living with a few friends, but I would never go back for anything.

It basically ruined my friendship with my best friend from high school because I found out he was a no-good drunk who didn't like to pay rent on time or hold a steady job. Still owes me money to this day even though it's been written off in my mind for several years now. Then asinine drama just pops up because several personalities are spending too much time in a small space. Finally, the greatest thing about having your own place - pants always optional.

I ****ing hate the entire region of the country I live in but am pretty much forced to stay here until I find a legitimate job because I live in a house where things are taken care of and here someone is wanting to move out of a place they have everything taken care of to live in a house with 6 guys and STILL pay $2700 for a semester of living? Is this the ****ing Kennedy compound or something?

Since your utilities are paid for at your Aunt's house and it is fully furnished already (unless youre sleeping on boxes there), then the only reason you want to get out is so you have a place to bring a girl in a hypothetical situation.

That is absolutely ridiculous. Get your financial house and common sense in order, dude. It seriously angers me that you're considering using your financial aid money on something so ridiculous.

It's arguable... but JJ > Sheen right now. Sheen's gonna have a more explosive ending though.

Same here. I'll be moving into a place with a couple friends whenever I go to Arizona, but till then being at home and only helping with groceries is fine by me. I do need a job by next fall though so I can start saving up.

                          Re: Off Topic 2011

So, this is what I've gathered thus far:

JJ is currently living in a home with 2-3 other people. He's considering moving out because he's in college and "its the thing to do."

In the current home, JJ is paying $0 to live there. Unless he says otherwise, I'm going to assume that includes groceries, utilities, board, and everything except maybe his car insurance and gas, his phone bill, and his discretionary spending.

On the other hand, the college house has a base rent of $2700 which includes everything except electric for roughly 4 months. Of course he would have to pay groceries and whatever else weekly/monthly expenses that are necessary when living on your own. This house will include 5-7 roommates, who you are dependent upon making rent or else your portion goes up. This house does include two 55 inch flat screen tvs and JJ has high aspirations of turning this house into his bachelor pad, which (for some reason) he doesn't like bringing girls home to Auntie.

Currently JJ has a part-time and financial aid to cover rent.

                          -------------------------------------------------------------------------

First off, why the hell is rent for this place so damn high? 2700 for 4-5 months for each roommate? If you're serious about moving out, compare that price to other apartments/houses in the area. College housing is usually a big rip off, especially if you're actually from the area.

Secondly, 4-7 other people is a lot of roommates. I can barely handle that many people in a beach house for a week, much less entertaining the thought of living with them for a fixed extended period of time. If this place had fixed rent (ie: you pay 400 a month no matter how many roommates you have), then that would be better, but since you're dependent upon these other people, there's too much room for error for this to turn out happily.

Third, of those pros/cons, there's only one valid reason and its a con: **** is 2700 when you don't even have funds to pay 300 bucks for pissing in public.

If you're serious about moving out, save up, think of everything little thing that could go wrong (car breaks down, gas prices go up, xbox blows up, etc) and have money for that. Not to mention think of all the essentials you need that you take for granted (groceries, house stuff, tv/internet, etc). You don't want to move out and break even every month. Do some research - look at other apartments and places for rent and get an idea of how much a month you will need. Once you find that magical number, save up until you have 2 months rent at least, just to have that buffer.
