Yeah and it's not like there's nothing else going on in the sports world either. We've got MLB opening weekend, the Final Four, NHL and NBA teams jocekying for playoff position.
Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII
    Penguins : 1990/91, 1991/92, 2008/09, 20015/16, 2016/17
    Pirates : 1909, 1925, 1960, 1971, 1979
    Panthers (FB): 1915, 1916, 1918, 1929, 1931, 1934, 1936, 1937, 1976

India being in the World Cup, and its population alone, make it more important to more people than all of the things you listed, combined.

I know nothing about cricket, but I work with an Indian guy who has been getting up at 4am every morning to watch the matches and such, and hearing about how serious it is in India, and knowing how many people there are...to be surprised that a match that is important to almost a billion people (yes, apparently cricket is that serious in that part of the world) gets the headline on ESPN just seems like American-superiority to me.

And trust me, this is coming from someone who thinks cricket is one of the most confusing/boring sports and cares very little about it. I was also surprised that, the other day the India/Pakistan match got front-page on ESPN.com, but when I brought it up to the kid at work and talked about it, my opinion was completely changed.

I knew it was you at first. It had the same exact feel as that thread you started about wanting Madden to go arcade. But I didn't know it was Giggas in the morning until you told me on meebo.

I'd just like to thank you all for a very entertaining day at work. I got the bare minimum done.

But the unrivaled highlight of the day was the poem about Born.

Yeah, I guess when you look at it that way, it makes sense. And I don't think it's American superiority so much as ignorance in the sense that most Americans don't know anything about Cricket. But then there are plenty of Indians in America. There sure seem to be a lot in the various departments around Pitt with which I have some familiarity at least.

Also, I see your name is still white. Wasn't that part of the April Fools Day shenanigans or did they just forget to make it blue again?

Yeah, that whole thing was just hilarious. And I'm guessing ryan wasn't expecting people to jump on the fact that he was baseballfreak18 so fast. It was quite suspicious when he meebo'd me and I asked him if he was him and he said no and signed off.

Ignorance is the better word, but I didn't want to use it and have you think I was calling you ignorant, if that makes any sense.

I agree with your initial response - I was surprised that it got the headline, but after talking with my co-worker about it and realizing how serious it was to those countries, it's hard to me to say it doesn't deserve some recognition.

And no, my name being turned white had nothing to do with April Fool's day. The "...for strippers" part of my title was, but my name was changed to white after I asked Steve to remove my supporter status from the site after a few things.

It's not that I hate cricket. It's just that I think I'm pretty smart and can pick up on things, but cricket is a freaking mystery to me. I don't understand the scoring, rules, when the game ends, etc. And I've tried several times. I think I would need to sit down with a very understanding cricket fan who could explain it to me step by step as we watched a match.

I completely agree. My senior year in college, I lived in an apartment "complex" that had a lot of Indians and any nice day they took over one of the "yards" and played. I did not understand a single second of it.

And yeah, somehow - despite the "stats" saying Sri Lanka 274/6 (50ov) to Indias 277/4 (48.2ov) India won by 6 "wickets" with 10 balls remaining.

I have no idea what the **** any of that means.

Yeah. Reading the rules and translating it to what I see just doesn't work. It's acutally kind of frustrating.

Persoanlly I was just surprised because ESPN usually would put the Final Four here. I know how important it is over there. I think it was Pakistan who had their coach murdered for losing to India a year or two ago. Most of my surprise comes from them actually realizing how important it is lol. I remember the Ruby championship last year only got tot he front page for a little while because they had to replay the entire game. The final only showed up on the side though.

Edit: Also I couldn't follow it if I tried. For the exact reason you all stated.

Yeah, the India/Pakistan rivalry is probably one of the most intense rivalries in all of sports....only, no one knows about it because no one ****ing understands the sport they're all playing.

For example: The batter gets the bat on it and it defects to a guy standing behind him, who catches it before it hits the ground. They all go ape****.

Maybe they felt 80+ dollars was worth the post count? No idea - don't know how many "supporter status" privileges they've removed so maybe it was overlooked.
