    Need input fellow petrol heads

    Ok here is the situation.

Ever since I was a little kid I have been completely in love with the Aston
Martins. I think they are just the nicest looking cars and I have followed all of the models and the history of what in my opinion is one of the greatest cars in automotive history.

Some of you on OS know that I am a serious car guy and have a couple of nice cars and that I am my own mechanic. I have done a little racing here and there nothing seriously pro but I have competed in a couple of series.

This year I just bought a 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T in black with red markings. I really love this car and drive it daily.

Now here is the part I need help with. A local dealership where a friend works just got in a 2000 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage in. It only has 20k mile on it and even though it is 11 years old it is in immaculate shape. It is the royal blue and the only down side for me is it is a convertible. Now I don't need two sports cars in my garage as much as I would love to have both, they are only asking for 32k for the Aston Martin for me, and they will work a deal pretty much straight trade for my Challenger.

So do I switch and get my long time childhood dream car or keep the Challenger?

    This ?

It's tough to give much advice, because I would rather have the Challenger. It's just personal opinion, though. If you like the Aston Martin enough and feel like it's worth trading.. then do it. It's going to come down to whether you want to do it or not anyways.

^^^ Yup thats the one, just different interior. Yeah I know this is one of the toughest decisions I have made in a while,(yes I know it just material goods).
I love both my only thing is I just don't see another opportunity to get my dream car for such a reasonable deal, you know.

Thats why I figured to post on here, and get some outside opinions.

I just really consider myself lucky enough to be in the position to have this problem at all.

I have a 2010 Challenger RT as well and I wouldn't give it up, but I am a Mopar and an American Muscle car guy and stay away from foreign made cars. So for me theres no doubt what I would do but if the Aston Martin is your dream car by all means do it.

Well, you have to consider whether or not you're cutting yourself short.

Is your' Challenger paid off ? If so.. are you losing out, rather then if you had the money to pay cash for the Aston Martin ?

I only ask, because I'm not that familiar with the value of many foreign cars.

Ok the Challenger is free and clear so no worries there. In 2000 the DB7 Vantage sold for around $160k depending on options. So it is 11 years old but it only has 20k on it and it is in great shape. Really the dealership should give me money back but since the DB7 should actually be around 50k-70k I might not argue the point.

My other concern with this is that they don't make the DB7's anymore so the chances of finding a good one are getting smaller. Only about 1,000 were ever sold of this model and only around 15k Aston Martins have been made period. Also the 2000 DB7 is the first one that had the 48 Valve V12 in it and let me tell you this is one amazing engine. Its was actually designed by Ford Cosworth in conjunction with their F1 program.

I love cars, and would love have either of these haha, but if you want the Aston martin, go for it. You've already made some good arguments for it, the only remaining thing to ask yourself is why do you want to keep the Challenger.

They're both great cars, I'd love to have a Challenger, my dad owned a 71 Challenger, so I've liked the new Challenger before it even came out. But, I've always loved tuners, so if it came down to a Challenger or a Supra/Skyline for me, I'd have to go with one of the later. Hope that helps in some way lol.

Aston Martin hands down..........My a few of my aunts have an Aston. 32K straight trade for a Challenger ????? That is a steal. You not going to find that many Astons for that deal with that kind of miles on it.

Plus it is your dream car as well........That is a too good of a deal to pass up.

Thanks for all of the input guys. I am going down at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning for a final test drive and look over the engine. I will let you know what I decide by tomorrow afternoon.

I'd say if it is your dream car, do it.

Just remember. Any maintenance or parts for the Aston Martin will be very pricey. Those cars can require a lot of regular maintenance.

True. But nowadays every car repair is pricey. I am my own mechanic so that saves some money, but every car needs a computer to diagnose problems and the Challenger is just as bad.

Whatever makes you happy I guess. I am a big fan of the new Challengers though. I am a body man and the guy that works next to me is replacing the outer rails on a new Plum Crazy challenger. I don't care for the purple but for body aesthetics, I can look at it all day in the stall next to me.
