Still, 3 years of probation and if she slips up once she's in prison for 5 years? A little stupid. Someone already said it, common sense should've prevailed here.

Summit County Common Pleas Judge Patricia Cosgrove sentenced Williams-Bolar last week to five years in prison, but suspended all but 10 days.

Re: Mom jailed for enrolling kids in wrong school district
You guys don't understand how schools are funded.
The school she was sending her kids to are mostly funded by property taxes. She wasn't paying property taxes in that county.
The school she was supposed to send her kids to are mostly state funded on a per kid basis. By not enrolling her kids in the this school she cost the school tens of thousands in funding.
That's why she was charged. If her children were going to the incorrect school within a school district it doesn't matter. When you cross district lines you are committing theft. Given the line about "almost always resolves cases without courts", I'm guessing they figured it out, told her, and she continued to do it.
We have truancy spots in our area to go around and pick up the kids who don't go to school and take them. Seriously
Bottom line: the media can twist this story any way they want.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: Mom jailed for enrolling kids in wrong school district
10 days in jail, 10 days of community service (assuming 8 hr days), and supervised probabtion.
If she spent 2 days in jail when first arrested she'll get time served on those, so 8 days.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

Re: Mom jailed for enrolling kids in wrong school district
If everybody enforced this law nationwide, it would be a hell of a lot of parents in jail. Because I know when I was a kid, damn near half the kids didn't even live in the district that they went to school in. Instead they were using their grand parents address to register. Hell some even went as far as using addresses of people they didn't even know and would just say the phone was disconnected.Comment

Re: Mom jailed for enrolling kids in wrong school district
I used my grandma's address so I could go to a certain Elementary and then Middle School. However no one bothered to question it at the Elementary school since she was the P.E. teacher their and the Middle School just assumed that I legitly lived their I suppose.Saints, LSU, Seminoles, Pelicans, Marlins, LightningComment

Re: Mom jailed for enrolling kids in wrong school district
Still doesn't justify the grand theft charge. YES, I understand the intricacies of federal funding for students. The school they were trying to put their kids into was a public school. The other school the mother did not want their kids to attend was also public school. And from my understanding, public schools are free to the public. So it's still puzzling to me on how can you steal $30,000 from a service that's free to the public?I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong. Re: Mom jailed for enrolling kids in wrong school district
Public school isn't free, you pay taxes for it. Your county property taxes go towards schools in your county/district. She didn't live in that district, so she wasn't paying taxes for that school. She was living in another district, so she wasn't paying those taxes, and her district could have less taxes or even 0. $30,000 for 2 kids for 2 years is really a discount for what the taxes could be.I have more respect for a man who let's me know where he stands, even if he's wrong.
