A completely even playing field for every individual would be perfect. However it is nowhere near realistic.

If I'm born to a mother who can't read and John Doe is born to a professor in physics I have a feeling the playing field will never be even. Give us the same resources and John Doe will beat me 9/10 times, if not more.

People are going to be born into rich homes, poor homes, and everywhere in between. Resources aren't going to be the same. The rich will have more, the poor will have less.

You want equal playing fields? Have parents accumulate enough wealth to provide for their children properly. If that means making certain you can move to a certain school district, than prepare for that.

Like I said, she had the opportunity to do things within the guidelines and she neglected that. She was caught and had a jury convict her of this crime.

PUBLIC schools should have nothing to do with wealth. I'd expect a rich family who can afford to send their kids to a private school to have more resources, but if FREE public schools don't have the same resources, you're just creating a cycle of the problem you listed. I'm not even going to get into how some families have had wealth for years and their kids and kid's kids will continue to be wealthy...

Atleast down here I know cause several of my family members have worked for this school district for quite some time that schools are funded based on test scores. From what I remember hearing the better the test scores/grade of the schools(schools are considered A,B,C,etc. schools based on standardized testing) the more money they have.

The elementary school I went to and actually work at now has great teachers, new technology, books, etc cause they get decent funding. However I've seen other schools in terrible neighborhoods where the classrooms look like they've had the same stuff for well over 20+ years, pretty hard for people to be successful with nothing or extremely outdate stuff. I don't blame any parent for wanting their children to have the chance to have a better education.

With this post, I see we have conflicting views on how things should be handled. Anything past this would get political so I'll just stop.

I do appreciate you making some good points and I see what you're saying. I just disagree with it.

A law is a law. Who ever thought this was a good law had their reasons. And to be honest I believe it is a good law.

Anyone who felt sorry should listen to the tapes. She and her father are trying to scam the system and her father is charged in a separate case of stealing $40,000 of benefits.
