RC Car Hobby
Anybody out there with RC cars/trucks ect as a hobby? Do you build or just buy ready to race? I want to get a starter off road to play with for myself and a kid and was thinking about this:

Re: RC Car Hobby
Man I used to be crazy with these things years back. When a kid my dad bought me a gas powered rc and we use to race all the time. I haven't messed with them for almost 10 years, but I was talking to my bestfriend the other night and we were thinking about getting some trucks. I'll be honest. It was a lot of fun building them things, but very time consuming. If I bought one again I would get it RTR. Saves me the hassle and time, and still have lots of fun. If I chose between the 2 I would also go with electric since it's less maintenance, price and are faster then the nitro ones as well.NBA2K is the standard of sports games period. -
Re: RC Car Hobby
I used to race RC trucks and buggys, the best way to learn about it is to build it yourself. They aren't that hard and its a great way to learn the in's and out's so you can fix anything if it breaks. I will agree with Art that it would be better to go with the electric over gas if this is your first RC. For the most part off road RC's are very durable, the battery life depends on the kind you get and your charger. The one you're looking at is fairly cool though it's a name I've never heard of. IMO if you want a starter RC and decide to go the RTR route I'd go with this http://www.hobbytown.com/Shop/ready-...y-charger-wxl5
Traxxas is a good starter.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Associated is the best but I don't think they're priced for a someone just getting into RC's, at least they weren't when I was racing em.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. Re: RC Car Hobby
I have two T-Maxxes sitting in my garage right now. They've been basically unmoved for 8 or 9 years. I used to run them all the time, but I kind of grew out of the hobby and didn't have the money for upkeep when I was younger.
I once went to Wildwood, New Jersey, and raced on the beach. That was fun.Originally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing? No one can seem to kill the right one.Comment

Re: RC Car Hobby
I have a T-Maxx 3.3 and a Revo 3.3
My dad picked the hobby up a few years ago, during the drag racing off season. It's a lot of fun if you have someone to run with, but since he doesn't play with his much, I don't mess with mine near as much.Comment

Re: RC Car Hobby
I used to love those RC cars! I still remember the best one that I had. My parents bought one in the US in 1987. I think the stickers on it would say "Lobo II"...or something like that. And it was the first time I saw a RC with a little steering wheel instead of a stick. I used to play all the time...the battery sure got exhausted faster and faster.
One time I crashed it somewhere and it got broken. I went to the only store in the city where they had this kind of stuff and they fixed it. I can still see in my head the sticker they put on the car after the fix.My Specs:

CPU: Z80 @ 3.5 MHz
GPU: Monochrome display
RAM: 48 KB

Re: RC Car Hobby
If I remember right it was the RC-10TG or RC-10GT, the electric truck was RC-10T and the buggy was RC-10.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. Re: RC Car Hobby
Hahaha, same here.
I wouldn't mind getting a nice electric off-road racer to toy around with. The gas-powered ones are just a bit over my head. I'm not mechanically inclined enough to tune engines and such. When I was younger (and ran my two t-maxxes) I had my step-father to help out, but that time has passed... lolOriginally posted by DaImmaculateONeHow many brothers does Sub-zero running around in his clothing?
