Richmond's an odd place. You can be in a nice area one block, cross the street, be in a bad area, and cross two more streets and be back in a nice area.

My mother-in-law-to-be lives in the museum district, and I'm generally distrustful of larger cities, so I'm not a fan of going out to dinner as the only male with my fiance and her. Although we don't go out at 1AM to bars.

The suburbs of Richmond are nice and cushy, though. The city is getting revived, but there's still parts that you don't want to be in.

****, man, people at the top aren't upstanding citizens either.

Let me make my point another way: there are a lot of people who don't care about being upstanding citizens. These are not just limited to geographic or economic indicators. People have egos, people want power. There's desperation at the bottom of the system: this usually leads to foolish, harsh actions.

It's ridiculous. I don't necessarily believe in karma, but I hope it gets these guys good. 2 on 1 is bad enough. 7 on 2 is bull ****.

Well my question is more what was going on with them being out at 1am, which is nothing out there but quiet or trouble.

Im not labeling that community anything at all, it seems like thats what the article was referring to though

Truth of the matter is I've seen a bunch of stuff like this growing up and I never lived in the projects. I even saw girls tap dudes behinds...none of it was just put online because it didnt exist.

What difference does it make? They went out to a bar for a beer and to hang out. What's the big deal about that? I go out to bars 2-3 nights a week and almost always stay there until they close, which here in Cleveland is at 2:30 am. So do millions of people every week and this type of attack is not normal behavior.

The neighborhood where I do my radio show is absolutely atrocious in terms of crime as well and my show is on from 1-5 am. We've had several cars broken into and/or stolen from the radio station's lot and surrounding areas alone in the last year even though it's well know that we have surveillance cameras. I'm a pretty big guy, but I know I'm not Bruce Lee and can't take on seven dudes so that's why I have my CCW and always carry at night. They might beat me up and get my wallet, but not before I put a hole in one of them.

This is why I don't go to Shockoe Bottom.

Sure, that's where all the good clubs/bars are at... but this isn't the first time something like this has happened down there.

Thank you. I open carry sometimes too (which is 100% legal in Ohio) but obviously not in bars or anywhere else with a Class D liquor license. I get a funny look now and then (usually people ask if I'm a cop to which I obviously say no and then explain the law to them) when I open carry but have never really had a problem with law enforcement regarding it.

Exactly.

This type of stuff happens in just about every major city in the country, believe it or not. Glad those guys didn't suffer any serious injuries.

Yeah this could happen anytime, anywhere. When I stay out late I especially try to be aware of my surroundings. I know a few guys who have been robbed after a night out drinking because they are drunk and an easy target.
