    Applying for new Photo ID in Maryland, question:

    Hey all, I'm in dire stress mode at the moment, and I was hoping my OS friends could help me think of a solution.

    My family was relocated not too long ago from New York to near Baltimore. I'm 3 weeks from my 21st birthday, still living at "home" (now in MD) and currently out of a job because of the recent move. I need a new ID, because my old NYS ID expires on my actual 21st birthday (and quite frankly, that's not an option for obvious reasons) :wink:

    When looking at the MVA website, it says I need two forms of proof of residency. From any of these things:

    • Maryland vehicle registration card or title;

    • Utility, telephone or cable/satellite TV bill;

    • Checking or savings account statement;

    • Life insurance card or policy (over 3 years old);

    • Property tax bill or receipt;

    • Mortgage account or proof of home ownership;

    • Residential rental contract (apartment lease or other rental of real property);

    • First class mail from a federal, state or local government agency (to include the contents and envelope); MVA mail is not acceptable;

    • Copy of federal or MD income tax return filing not more than 18 months old, with proof of filing;

    • Installment contract from a bank or other financial institution;

    • Sales tax or business license;

    • Major credit card bill;

    • Residential service contract (refers to services performed at the address of residence; for example, cable or satellite television, TV repairs, lawn service or exterminator contract);

    • Cancelled check with imprinted name and address;

    • Voter registration card;

    • Selective Service Card.

    ....I literally have NONE of this with a Maryland address attached to it. The closest thing I could think of is bringing in a UPS or USPS box with my name and address on a printed label as the recipient...Does anyone know any steps or pointers of places to go? I have everything I need minus the two forms of proof that I legitimately live here in MD, but I do.

    Thanks to any and all who take the time to reply to this.

    Many states have a parental affidavit that can be filled out, but sometimes those are only for minors. If you quickly open a bank account, go to a branch, they can print out your statement summary with address usually

      I had this same exact problem when I needed to renew my drivers license after moving to SC, fortunately I had my Selective Service card, so all I needed was to open a bank account and get a signed bank Statement(Signed by a bank person or something, mine wasn't signed, but it's supposed to be). If you have a piece of mail addressed to you that has the yellow sticker that shows a change of address, that will work too.

      Personally the whole process is stupid, the bank accepts far less info than that to open an account, yet a bank statement is somehow Viable proof of your address. Bureaucracy at it's finest.

        Yep.

        You could also try to renew you NY license if you can do it online. I know that isn't ideal and maybe not truly legal depending on how long you have moved. You could also file a tax return now. Depending on the rules, you can change your voter registration, but usually you have to have an id for that. You should have your Selective Service Card, if not you need to get anyways.

            Yeah I would open a checking account with a MD Bank and get a cell phone bill.

              I do my banking online, and I'm on a family plan which isn't billed to my name personally. I did switch my address online to my MD one though, maybe I can run in and ask them to print one out for me.

              Thanks for all the responses though guys. It does help.
