I know I posted back in 2008 about my friend Dave being murdered in Detroit, Michigan. Well, I just found out tonight that his killer was convicted on Thursday and will likely rot in prison for the rest of his life with no possibility of parole:

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A federal jury convicted a Lakewood man Thursday of a double homicide in Detroit more than two years ago.Dwayne A. Davis Jr., 24, now faces life in prison without parole when he is sentenced later this year.
The case was tried in federal court because it involved an interstate crime. Prosecutors wanted to seek the death penalty in the case but U.S. Department of Justice officials in Washington decided against it.

I'd say congratulations but that's not appropriate. I hope this gives you some feeling of justice, though- I can say that with sincerity, I can't imagine going through this.

Thanks, guys. Dave was a dude I grew up with and knew for about 12 years or so. He lived a mere three blocks from me for the last four years of his life so I saw him pretty often.

The saddest part about it is that his father passed away about six months before Dave was murdered and his mother was just crushed by losing both of the men in her life in such a short span.

Dave also had a three year old son at the time too and now he'll never get to know his father which really sucks.

I'm very happy that the scumbag that did this to him is getting the second most severe punishment you can get in this country, but I'm also sad just remembering what a cool, laid back guy Dave was and nothing will ever bring him back.

Like I said, I knew Dave for over a decade and while he was a pretty big guy, never once saw him even get remotely physically aggressive with another person. The fact that he died such a violent death is just so unfair. Especially since the killer's only beef was with the other victim in this. All Dave did was give them a ride. Wrong place, wrong time.

I know exactly how you feel as my best friend got murdered in 2004 and it was beyond violent. Witnesses were not reliable so the dude got off with a manslaughter charge and is only serving 14 years.

It's good to see justice being served and I'm sorry you lost your friend. It truly sucks that there are so many thugs in the world, but at least this one won't get the opportunity to do this again in society.

Im very sorry for your lost but I am glad the killer got what he deserves. I hope that it can bring in some closure for you and your friends family.
