I say yes. But if you haven't been abusing your leave and have been there for awhile, you should have plenty to use.

Considering I get 0 days, no, I won't be fine with it when the time comes for my wife and I to have a child (I might not even have the same job then...although I don't know of any company around here that does give paid time off for father's). I want to spend time at home with my wife and child...I know she'll need help.

I don't think Father's should get the same time off as women (2-3 months from what I've seen), but 2-3 weeks would be really nice.

There is no way I could even take 2-3 weeks off, I have too many projects going on all the time.

I think it should be mandatory that fathers get at least a week off paid and not have to use vacation. I want to spend time with my new born as well and I am sure the mother would like the extra help as well.

Agreed. I'm working on 9 medium to large scale projects right now (tech lead and PM on all of them...I'm flooded). If I'm still at this current place when my wife and I have a child, I'll be able to take one week, but I'd love to have 2-3 weeks. There's no reason that father's can't have a bit more time off than 1 week.

2 weeks paid. Don't really care about unpaid because I wouldn't ever take unpaid leave.

Congrats 24th Letter and all other expecting fathers. The "Family Leave" at my company is up to 12 weeks, unpaid. I'm storing up my paid leave now, as our first child is due in September.

Talking to many people outside of my company..ive found men dont really get as much...
Ive heard none, to having to use all your vacation to a week...

I was eligible to take up to three months as well.

I took three weeks off.

I would have taken the whole three months off if I could. I think it's equally important for the father to be there with their newborn to bond, just like the mother does.

Where do you work 24th?

I think the FMLA for Federal Employees only grants 2 weeks paid Paternity/Maternity, and then you have to take sick leave.

The maternity leave for my wife/teachers is good...she got someting like 6 months maternity leave w/ 4 of them paid.

Get none. No sick pay nor vacation.

So I guess Im going to have to get injured again when I need some time off for a baby.

I broke my foot at work a few weeks ago so now I'm just sittin around twidling my thumbs.

I'm taking 2 weeks off again when my son is born. My company allows up to 12 days a year of sick day to be used for family members, so I can use that instead of dipping into my vacation time.

Looks like, if I were to take that leave, 12 weeks unpaid. I think I'd rather try to lobby for telecommuting in that case.
