When I had my Xbox and Video games stolen I did some detective work and tracked down my stuff at a local pawn shop. Before I called the cops I offered to buy my stuff back for what he bought it for ($120 he paid, it was worth over $1000), he refused even after I had showed him serial numbers. So I called the cops, they confiscated all my stuff, and they shut the pawnshop down because that was like their 10th time buying stolen property and not getting a photocopy of a license.

So like two years later I finally got a call out of the blue and they shipped all my stuff back, Military Police and detectives are SLOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW.

It's not them, it's the judicial side of things. Stuff like that doesn't go to trial for quite some time and your property is evidence.

It at least takes a year for felonies to get into District court.

The only problem is that I'm not sure if the charges will stick. They really don't have any evidence that these guys stole my wheels. It was obvious that they were lying about how they acquired the wheels, but there was nothing that proves that they stole it.

They can charge them with "Recieving Stolen Property" and then they don't have to prove that they were the ones who stole it, just that they possessed it and knew or should have known it was stolen. In KY, at least, they are the same level of charge.

My job is to suppress burglaries in a very bad area. I'll tell you I'm looking forward to diving into the craigslist/ebay angle. We have tons of break ins and larceny from auto's.

People used to pawn things and we could catch them that way.

Nowadays the internet is key.

Glad to see you got your wheels back! I know exactly how you felt as I suffered the same fate on my Maxima a Year and a half ago. Unfortunately mine were never recovered. Six months later they caught the ring of guys known on the street as the "Rim Reapers". They had $300k worth of rims and tires on hand. They sold the tires on eBay under some fictitious name and actually had a high favorable rating for fast turn around, lol!
