    Re: The Nostalgia Thread

Here's a game I played the heck out of when I was younger:

I had never heard of it, but one of my brothers friends said he'd sell me the game for $5. I didn't even know what the game was, other than it's name. I bought it blindly, and I am very happy I did. One of my best purchases ever.

    I love this thread

I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Not exactly my childhood, as I was in my late teens-early 20's, but I still remember when internet was something not many people had, and it was only in your home. Hard to explain it when today it's everywhere you look. A buddy of mine had internet since 1995 or so, and I'm pretty sure he was one of the first people to have it back home.

I still remember that if I wasn't going to his house, internet didn't really exist for me. It's hard to explain to young guys today what was it like. I'm not talking about the times there was no internet (which I remember really good as well), I'm talking about the beginning, at least the way it started in certain places.

I remember, it was 1995 or 1996, we would search for music files, some albums we never had that we could listen to. There weren't many online stores or many sites with songs you could listen to (hardly any), but one store I do remember was worldwidemusic.com, I think that was the address (though you had to punch in the whole http://www thing back then, if I'm not mistaken). The home-page looked like 2 glass doors that opened when you logged on to the website, it was designed like a real store. And, like today, you could listen to about 30 second of each song on the album you chose.

Search engines back then were Alta Vista, Lycos and a couple others I don't remember. I think Netscape was popular back then, and I was fascinated with the little animation it had while a page was loading (and it was loading VERY SLOW).

Oh yeah, connecting to the internet sounded like faxing.

Home Improvement...I liked this show, though never thought of it as great. How many seasons did it have?

By the way, every day I watch Little House on the Prairie, aired every day on some Fox Spokane channel, or something like that. Really really like this show.

Mega Man 2 - Man, I played a LOT of that game.

Ice Hockey - I remember my dad surprised me with this NES game after I got straight A's two report cards in a row. You picked between 6 countries. IIRC they were the USA, USSR, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, Canada, and Poland. You picked a combination of skinny/medium/fat guys for your four man team. You controlled your goalie and one of the players at the same time. The CPU cheated to come back. My cousin and I would draw up tourneys and it would get pretty heated. Man, what a great game.

As a younger member of the forum, this is not likely to resonate with many of you, but when I think of childhood movies, I can't look past Homeward Bound.

I still to this day quote Shadow's "You've got a lot to learn pup". Loved it as a kid, had it on VHS and wore that thing out.
