    FOUND my missing dog

I didn't start a post yesterday, but my 2 year old English Springer spaniel Benji went missing around 8AM Saturday. I let him out in the morning like usual and he went chasing a car that drove by. Normally he chases til it passes by our house and comes back a few minutes later. I had to go to class and figured he'd be back in the yard when I returned.

Nope. Looked everywhere. Drove up and down through the neighborhood and asked around. Called the animal shelter. Other than the next door neighbors who said they saw him at the top of the street that morning, nobody saw him. He had never stayed out overnight and never stays out in the rain if he can help it. Something was wrong. I couldn't sleep much last night.

Woke up early and no sign of him today. Drove around again and nothing. Figured he was gone forever.

This afternoon around 3PM I went to pick up my grandma for Sunday dinner. And guess who I saw crossing the street covered in mud...BENJI. (less than half a mile away from the house)

I pulled over. He came running towards me and jumped in the back seat as soon as the door opened. Drove him back home and put him in his cage. Picked up my grandma and got the prodigal's son a plain double hamburger from McDs.

    Re: FOUND my missing dog

Thats good news. My dog use to run off every time I let her out when she was younger now 11 years later she has just enough energy to go and and do what she is suppose to do and come back in, when she remembers what shes outside for.

That is great news. Always warms my heart when things like this end up good in the end.

I live in a heavily wooded area surrounded by state forests. So when missing cat or small dog pics go up. I only frown cause of all the coyote, bear and fox running around.

We have a English Springer Spaniel that will turn 3 in July.

She doesn't chase cars, she chases ducks, squirrels and birds. She's ran away about a half dozen times, but as my wife said, she knows where here bread is buttered.

          That is great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's great news! I had a similar experience with our cat a few years ago. He disappeared one night and didn't come in for dinner like he always did. The next day I was printing up lost posters and decided to give the animal shelter a call...turns out an old lady down the street had lost her cat and sent her friends out to find it. They saw our cat sitting out on the fence and took him back home to her. Of course she immediately told them he wasn't hers so instead of bringing him back to our house the old ladies took him to the shelter!

It all turned out fine, the animal shelter waived the recovery fee because my cat didn't run away he was 'catnapped' The only negative was that he got a nasty infection in his eyes from hanging with the bad crowd at the shelter, so it ended up costing me a trip to the vet and antibiotic eye drops. Trying to administer eye drops to a cat is an adventure, definitely a two person job.

So glad to hear you got your dog back Gamecock, I know what its like to form a really strong bond with a pet.

              Nice.

We lost our cat about a month ago. She had never been outside for more than like 5 minutes maybe 3 or 4 times in her life. Somehow she got out. We put up about 25 signs through out the neighborhood and went out looking for her every day for about the first week with no luck. Pretty much gave up hope.

23 days later we got a call from a person about 15 houses down and said she thought she saw her in her back yard and had just seen the notes we put up. Went over there and sure enough she was there...skinny and dehydrated. Pretty cool when that stuff happens.

                Re: FOUND my missing dog

Good news, but I suppose thats why they have laws about letting your dog out without a leash...

By the way, here is a little story for you dog lovers and owners out there to maybe make you a little more responsible...

Last month I was headed to work at 7 in the morning and there is a lake next to my house. Well I start backing out of my driveway and I see a dog just wandering around out on the lake like a zombie. It took me over a hour to get the dog off the ice as I was scared that he was going to fall through or just stay out there forever, and I cant just let a dog be like that. So I called the Fire Dept, the Police, and the Animal Control. Animal Control doesnt pick up the phone, the Police tell me to just let the dog go, and the Fire Dept says they will see if they can make it out there... Well I live in a tiny *** town and I sure as hell know there wasnt anything for them to tend to and they still didnt come... Wonderful right? So I had to get the dog off the ice on my own which I did... Now I have a new dog, gets along great with my other one. But maybe people should be a little responsible and remember that after all it is a DOG, and they get excited very easily and will CHASE as it is their nature to do so...

Hopefully you learned your lesson and will put a leash on your dog from now on since obviously your yard isnt fenced in. At least get a run for your dog that you can hook him up to so he just doesnt run around freely... Imagine seeing your dog getting hit by a car... Wouldnt be too nice. Not trying to be mean, just really am a dog lover, and this type of stuff bothers me...
