I need some advice regarding my truck 2003 Silverado 5.3 LS 97000mi. Ok well heres my situation.
I was trying to trade it straight up for a car (lincoln ls) I called this guy who had one, he offered for me to meet at car auction in dallas. Idea is to get cash for it, buy the lincoln and keep some cash in my pocket. I need the money to move me and my babymoma are breaking up.
Would this be a good idea can I get good money for my truck at a car auction? Im thinking 7 to 8 Gs would be nice. the car is 4,500. This way I can get a nice to move around in keep my spirits up and put some cash in my pocket that would be very helpful.
So again like I said can i get good money for my truck at a car auction? Any good advice would be very helpful.

I didn't even know they had car auctions for everyday cars. I wouldn't think you would get much more then it's worth. You can check Kelly blue book to see what it's worth but like I said I'm not sure you would get more than what it's worth.

You would lose around 2k for the auction house fee since most will take a cut around 20%.

Not sure why you would do that unless you're looking to buy a car where you have a chance of buying the auction car for less

It is pretty rare to get a good deal for your car at an auto auction unless that vehicle is a classic or very hard to find. If it is an average vehicle, which your truck is, I doubt you walk out of there with more then $4,000 in your pocket, after the house takes their cut.

If I was you, I would look for a car dealership with the car you want and try to trade for it.

Yea craigslists is where I actually found this person with the lincoln. He said hes willing to trade but then offered me to go to car auction with him and get a bid for.
I also got in contact with an owner of a 2003 crown victoria 95000miles looks nice on 24s in good condition inside & out.
Would it be a bad idea to trade my truck for the crown vic and maybe a 1000?

Do you have a Carmax near by? Most car dealerships only accept trade-ins, so unless you are buying from them, they won't buy your truck. However, Carmax will make you an offer for your vehicle regardless of whether or not you buy from them.

I bought my second car from an auction after the first was totalled in an accident. Compared to Kelly Blue Book, it got a great deal on it (about 30% lower than KBB value).

You have to understand that people go to aucctions to get a deal. So unless you are willing to settle for 10-20-30% less than it's value and take an auction's cut on top of that, I would likely stay away.
