Kayak Fishing, anyone here does it?

I just purchased a 2011 Perception Pescador 12' in Khaki color. I did a bunch of researching for the best bang for the buck plus quality. It brought me to two different Yaks, the Heritage Redfish 12 and the Perception Pescador 12. Ultimately I went with the Pescador because it is based off the Tarpoon 120 series which is known as one of the best fishing platforms. So along with the Pescador being 140 bucks cheaper and known for a solid design it was a no-brainer to go with it.

Only down side is the local shop "Pack and Paddle" here in Lafayette only had it in Camo color, so they had to order it. It won't be in until middle of June. So I won't get it in to do some fishing until the hottest part of summer here in South Louisiana. BUT I will be ready for the fall when temps drop to the 60s & 70s. Then it is ON, I will be tearing the Bass up in several months.

They don't really have any good pictures of the one I got but will post some pictures of the Redfish 12 which looks very similar.

Anyone have a Kayak and do some fishing out of it? If so post some picks of your Yak and some tips of fishing out of one. I will be posting some pics of mine once I get it in.

Thanks JB, I LOVE the color. I wanted the Khaki so much that I was willing to wait and get them to order it. I will post pictures of mine once it comes in.

I got just about everything that one Yak has. I got the stab pole, rods & reels, rod holders, storage pack, paddle, etc. Only thing that Yak has I don't is a fish finder. Now I plan on installing one couple months after I get the Yak in.

Went fishing this weekend and had a excellent time on the water. Landed 20 bass and lost several more. Most were in the 1 to 2 pound range. Bagged 3 to 4 3lbers and just as it was getting to hot to continue fishing. I landed this nice 4lb bass on a silver and blue rattle trap. Had to get out the kayak to take the pictures of this nice size bass.

Yea going to hit some salt water also. Redfish, Specs, Drum, etc. But I am more a fresh water fan. I like fishing for bass more than anything.

Man how much did that Kayak cost? I'm down here in Charleston, plenty of rivers to fish in out here, however I have wanted a boat, didn't really think about using a Kayak. Could be interesting. Do you use this in rivers or mostly lakes?

I've never tried that type of fishing, I'm more of a deep sea salt water fisher. I always fish the deep sea rodeo's we have in this area of the gulf. But that looks like it could be fun, going to have to try it out.

My total setup cost little under 700. It was 500 for kayak, another 100 for paddle and then few bucks to rig out the rod holders, straps, and such.

I fish pretty much anything with it. Freshwater lakes, bayous (our rivers lol), ponds, Saltwater for Red fish, Specs, drum, etc.

Truly my favorite now is saltwater in the marshes because it is like fishing fresh water bass but you stick some BIG reds. Here is a pic of my buddy on the left and his uncle that hooked up on this MASSIVE red down in Cameron Louisiana.

There is truly nothing like it bj, drifting silently through nature with as little cost as the money it took to drive there. Truly a connecting experience with the outdoors and you get to do some AMAZING fishing while you at it

Girl friends little brother hook up on this 9lb 4oz Bass last night on a top water scum frog. He is 6'2" to give you a idea on fish length.

Went hit the Gulf of Mexico this weekend in the Kayaks. Caught dozens of hard head cats, 3 black drum, 3 sheep heads, 1 gaftop cat, several croakers, and 4 Reds. 3 of which were keepers.

                      2 Reds - 22" long
                      1 Red - 17"

Me with 2 of the 22" reds. They were frozen so the tails were stuck bent away so you cant see full length. But they were nice looking Reds. Also you can see how burnt I am LOL. Hat on backwards = white box on forehead. Sunglasses on = Raccoon whiteness around eyes

Awesome! My mom got into fly fishing and this spring we both got rods and have been doing urban fishing in the lakes...

Eventually we may get float tubes or whatnot to go on a lake/river but we're nowhere near that level yet. We're members of a fly fishing group in the area that helps us learn techniques and whatnot, definitely a lot of fun and relaxing at the same time.

NICE Blue, fishing is a great relaxing experience and good bonding time with family or friends. It was 3 of us on this last trip all in Kayaks and it was a blast to sit in the middle of the water and fish like you are sitting in a recliner catching Red fish.

I love to sling the fly rod around. Nothing like throwing some small top water spiders around trees and tearing up a mess of big Bull Bream.

Also caught a nice 5lb Florida large mouth bass on a top water white mouse with the fly rod. One hell of a fight with a light duty fly rod.

I wanna get some top water action on some Reds with fly rod, now that would be a fight!!

Went hit a local hidden hot spot for some Freshwater fun this weekend. Got on the bass like crazy. I landed between 10 to 12, and my two buddies that came both landed around 4.

Walked away with 8 keepers and one that was pushing close to 4lb. Made some BBQ bass that night and drank some whiskey. It was a good Saturday

From left to right those 5 are the ones I caught stopping at my large one in middle. My buddies caught the last two bass on right and don't know why ol boy kept the googleeye lol.

Me and the nice one. He was frozen and curled away so it looks shorter than it was.

Heading out tomorrow morning to hit the Gulf of Mexico for some Bull Reds. The reds have moved in and are getting caught in big numbers right now with most reds in the 40+" range. So should get on several 20+ pounders tomorrow!

Pictures hopefully to follow, even though we have lack of fisherman here
