    Re: Intermittent Fasting (IF) thread

Lol nice write up! Very detailed. It may be worthwhile actually tracking your cals for a day or two because it's actually pretty easy to undereat on this type of eating if you are not careful.

At 6'6 or whatever crazy height you are (yes I'm jealous ) you'll need a bunch of cals just to maintain so definelty look into that to make sure you are getting adequate cals for your basal + lifestyle needs.

I'd give it another week and maybe up the cals a little and see if that heavy headed feeling passes. Also maybe consider uping your carbs because even though they are an evil word these days they are important for someone with your activity level imo and are the quickest source of glucose for your brain which could help with the brain fog you mentioned.

Regarding your bball on saturday it's up you regarding breaking the fast early (some oats or something a few hours before would be a good bet) or not. I know that I could never lift heavy with an empty stomach when I started but now that I'm used to it I can do an intense 40-60 mins lifting sessions including squats, bench, deadlifts etc and then go for a 30 min run and I get through all that ok without any thought or need for food your body does adjust. My only pre-workout is some nasty instant coffee and I'm good to go.

    GL with it!

It's only anecdotal evidence I know but I found it interesting to see NFL legend Hershel Walker only eats one meal a day and works out like crazy and looks like this at age 48:

      Re: Intermittent Fasting (IF) thread

I'm full steam ahead with this diet and friggen loving it. This could legitimately be a life-altering change for me.

The little fat I have left around my midsection is slowly melting away, I have great energy throughout the day, it's so much easier to plan/eat throughout the day with only three meals again. Still have zero urges for junk food, alcohol or meaningless snacking. As a matter of fact, I'm never hungry - period. Clock hits noon, feeding window opens, I eat, close things down at 8pm and call it a day. It feels like such an effortless diet compared to every other diet I've tried.

And probably most importantly, the weird woozy feeling in my head is gone.

BTW I started doing Insanity again this, week - for the first time I'm doing it first thing in the AM. No light-headedness or anything despite the fasting period. Amazing how the body can adapt!

Good to hear man. It really is one of those things where I suggest to people don't knock it til you've tried it.

I goes against so many things we have been taught since childhood but the science behind it is solid and it really is easy to stick with once you get the hang of it.

The human body is an amazing thing.....

          Re: Intermittent Fasting (IF) thread

I've also started IF this weekend, and surprisingly, day 1 was pretty easy. Fasting from 7PM to 11AM. When 11AM rolled around, I was hungry, but not starving. I had just a normal meal, and I was satisfied. Had maybe 1800 calories in the 8 hours, and as of this morning, i'm having no trouble waiting until 11AM to eat. All i've had during the 16 hours is black coffee in the morning and water. Also one Diet Pepsi, but I don't plan on keeping that up.

After this week will be difficult to adjust, as I am on day shift time this week, but i'm back to overnights at the end of the week. I'll need to adjust my window come next Monday. But I figured I could lay the groundwork this week, as I wanted to start it with my wife to give us both motivation, as she joined a Biggest Loser challenge at work. She is doing the 14/10 method. She already cheated last night, as it was the last time her sister would be able to go out for a while, so she had a few drinks, but she plans on getting right back to it today. I'll be sure to give her hell if not

Can't wait to see how i'm doing in a few weeks. I'm hoping that any and all cravings for overly sweet foods will all but go away, but i'm not gonna beat myself up for occasionally having some junk food. Just gonna watch my cals for the day and try not to go over 2000 or so. It will probably be difficult to hit 2000 as long as I eat right, so i'm hoping the weight starts to melt off. I already dropped from 210 to 193 back in February, but I haven't really lost any since then. Here's to a new start!

            Re: Intermittent Fasting (IF) thread

I've kinda stalled myself in recent times. I'm doing great Monday to Friday then have been drinking / eating too much crap on the weekends.

I don't gain any weight doing this and it'll be fine once I'm ready for maintenance but it's certainly stopping me from dropping fat at the moment which is annoying as I still have 20lbs or so to go.

Gotta buckle down on those weekends!!!

              Re: Intermittent Fasting (IF) thread

Interesting that you are having trouble on the weekends, to me that former pitfall is one of the easiest to avoid now with IF.

My Memorial Day BBQ wasn't bad at all and I usually pig out like most guys at those things. Chips, hot dogs, chili, etc. I had three turkey dogs and WW buns (like 500 cal total) and a bunch of fruit. That's it. Of course I drank quite a bit (Bic & Diet so technically no cals, just a ton of chemicals lol) but overall I was happy since I didn't eat 7k calories.

Anyway, we need some more OS'ers testing this out. I'm one month in (crazy I started on May 4th thanks to looking back at this thread, damn time flies) and will never look back. Even if I never get my dream body and lose that little bit of fat I have left this diet is still worth it's weight in gold.

The fact that food no longer is constantly nagging at my thoughts is amazing. As Berkhan says in his marshmallow theory, it's nice to be free of a life where you are always thinking and planning and worrying about food.

I used to have such a short fuse and get so irritable in the "six small meals" diet if I'd be late by just 30 minutes on one of my meals. That'd lead to headaches, trouble concentrating and just more worrying about food. I'd be sitting in a meeting with the CEO of our biggest client and I'd be worried about if it would be over by 2pm so I could run to my car and get my snack on time. What a joke, who the hell wants to live like that? It's amazing how free you feel on this diet. You can go back to worrying about your job, hobbies, etc and not have food hanging over your head 24/7.

                Re: Intermittent Fasting (IF) thread

I did this by accident for a few weeks. Lost about 10 lbs.

Now I'm trying it out with a plan. Due to my job, I've got an odd window of eating. Usually can't eat dinner until about 11 PM. So my window begins at 3 PM. I'll see how it goes. Soft drinks are all diet and no desserts unless its fruit. My plan..

                3:00 - Eat lunch
                6:00 - Eat a snack(pack of crackers)
                8:00 - Eat a snack(pack of crackers or peanuts)
                11:00- Eat a small dinner

The biggest positive is I'm avoiding fried food easily. All of my "fast food" is from Lenny's Subs which is a roast beef and provolone.

I still need to try this out. Esp if I can match my feed times up to my work times, pretty much whatever I want I can cook for free, the trick will be to cook grilled chicken or fish instead of wings, fries, burgers, etc.

I'm intrigued... This should work wonders in conjunction with a low carb diet.

Starting today. Haven't eaten since last night around 8:30, sitting in my cubicle sipping on a diet iced tea. I might break away from the low carb routine and get a sandwich from the cafeteria during lunch. I get off work at 3:00, which is when I hit the gym for a hour and a half. I'll probably have a protein shake when I get home, then I'll eat dinner around 7:00. Maybe have another shake at 8:00. I'll keep you apprised of my findings.

Sounds good GL with it. I really don't find going low carb is necessary for fat loss. It can help with some people who are really carb sensitive but seeing as the brain's main source of energy is glucose (ie carbs) going to low carb can lead to 'brain fog' and feeling like crap and lethargic.

Yeah, I think I have a tendency towards carb-sensitivity. I have diabetes history in my family, and I want to avoid that as I get older. The best way to do that for me is to limit carb intake.

Fair enough. I love my carbs!

IF + a low carb diet will drop fat like a mofo that's for sure....

I'm with you Jonsey, I'm losing some blubber even with eating a pretty high amount of carbs (fruit/veg/WW bread). I no longer avoid eating two turkey dogs with on WW buns or making a grilled chicken sandwich. Feels goooood. My post-dinner shake has 52g of carbs too.

THM, I don't know the details about diabetes, do fruits/veggies/ww bread really have a negative effect?

I think fruit has a bunch of vitamins / minerals / high in fibre etc that are so good for us it would be a shame to have to remove them completely from the diet. I think diabetics have to be more mindful of higher GI fruits like dates or pineapple causing insulin spikes and should stick more to things like grapes / plums / apples etc which are lower GI.

GI is all relative though because if you eat it on an empty stomach it would have more of an impact than say if you eat it after a protein shake with full cream milk for example.

The one thing i do love about IF'ing is that when I do eat nothing is really off limits and I can go out and eat with friends etc like a 'normal' person.

Thinking of those turkey dogs made me hungry, thanks for nothing man!
