Just want to wish you Detroit OS'ers a safe future in a city that had 310 murders in 2010.

Interesting note: 8/10 of the cities had median income average 22%+ below the national average.

I'm surprised as well. I expected Camden, NJ to be on the list. They laid off half their police force earlier this year and the criminals proclaimed victory over the city.

Crazy shift over the last ten years in which the population of downtown Detroit went down and all the surrounding northern suburbs (still in Metro Detroit) actually went up. I was part of that movement, and unfortunately the crime seemed to seep up a few miles with it. Traditionally 8 Mile Road was the dividing line between the poor (crime prone) and the (relatively) richer, but now people are saying the line is now at I-696, which is a couple miles further north. I see all the news in my old hometown (near 8 mile) about AK rifle shootings, Craigslist related robberies/deaths and domestic disputes involving attempted vehicular manslaughter and I realize how lucky I was to get out of that dump.

Some parts of Detroit like Midtown and the riverwalk are improving, and there are actually an influx of hipsters moving in to the abandoned buildings, but it's going to take a long time for the whole city to be turned over.

I am not surprised New Haven is on the list. I have been through there several times. New Haven is nothing but one drugged out city.

Nothing but a New England version of Washington DC.

Not surprised Rockford, IL is on the list either. Rockford use to be a nice place until they tore down all the projects in Chicago and move all those people out there 16 years ago.

Pretty much all those IL small towns and suburbs went down hill now and nothing like they once were when I was a kid. Oak Park, Forest Park, Maywood, Bellwood, Gurnee, Rockford, Palos Hills, Auroa, Rolling Meadows, Naperville, Evergreen........All down hill now.

Saginaw, MI (my hometown) has been one of the most dangerous cities in America as well. Michigan has a lot of work to do, and no one is doing it.

Some of my best friends are still there but I don't miss that city at all. I tell em' all the time when they ask me when next I'll be up that way, "I love ya and miss ya, but not that much."

Uhh... what? Naperville? No way dude. From Wikipedia:

In a 2010 study, Naperville was named as the wealthiest city in the Midwest and eleventh in the nation with a population over 75,000.

If Naperville is going downhill then Beverly Hills must feel like a slum to you.
