Need Help: Trying to connect Xbox360 and PC to net at same time

Just bought a 5-port ethernet hub from radio shack. I've got my modem (has just one port), pc, and xbox 360 hooked into it. The problem is I can't get on the net and log into xbox live at the same time. Any suggestions?

If it's an ethernet hub, you're splitting one IP address into 5. If you have a router, it separates them into 5 separate IP addresses. I'm sure that's your issue. Being on Live takes a ton of bandwidth up. Even if you don't want wireless, just get a cheap wireless router for like $30-$40 and use the ethernet ports on the back. That should fix everything.

It's more like, whoever comes on first gets the one IP, and everybody else is ****ed.

Hah, yeah true. I guess I've never understood the purpose of ethernet hubs.

They can be useful when combined with a router.

Took the switch/hub back and got a 4-port router. Everything is working beautifully now! Thanks Guys!.....A different clerk helped me when I went back and told me the switch would only recognize one device as being online at a time.

Hubs suck *** compared to a switch though.

Although they're fine for extending network access to low traffic devices.
