    Fish Tank

I’m looking to start a fresh water fish tank for the bachelor pad. Does anyone on hear run a successful tank?

    What size tank?
    What kind of fish?
What supplies will I need right away?
    How much work/maintenance?
Any tips or suggestions are appreciated (yes I know this will be a decent sized time commitment). Thanks.

    Re: Fish Tank

I have an ~90 gallon, its a custom built hex shape tank. I like tropical fresh water fish. I have fish that do well in a community tank, so there are lots of fish swimming around. I also have plants which help control the water properties and it looks better.

I would definitely get some plants because it takes less maintenance. It can take more time with plants if you are having to add chemicals, co2, etc, but you should be able to grow some basic plants without those. I have a co2 hook up, but right now I'm not running it as I'm going to be changing stuff in my tank soon.

*Note- smaller tanks require more cleaning as the water gets dirtier quicker because there is less of it.

These are the main hardware needs.
    Tank
Lights- need lots of light if you are growing plants
Filter- this is important and there are different types, I have canister type and it works great, do go cheap on this
Air Pump- get this to help keep oxygen in water
Automatic feeder- I use this so I don't have to be there to feed them twice a day
Vacuum suction cleaner- this helps you clean the bottom of the tank and also refill/change the water
Timer- I use a timer for the lights to simulate day light and night, the air pump also runs on a timer

I've had a few fish tanks in my life and to me they are a pain to keep clean on a consistent basis. I would start small and work your way up. Only get a few fish at a time and make sure the water is safe and settled a couple of days before putting fish in it.

Do you really care where I sent this from?
