I have thought about moving there to get away from the hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding and potential 7-8+ on the Richter earthquake Alabama has to deal with. Heck, everywhere I have lived has all these things! Arkansas, Louisiana, Memphis, South Mississippi - disasters of some sort are alwas happening or about to happen. I figured Idaho/Montana would be the way to go when I retire, lol.Comment

All this Boise hate, LOL. We lived up there for almost two years after college and loved it. It has four distinct seasons, some good parks (our son was three or so at the time), nice hiking and outdoor activities, one of everything in regard to stores and chains, some great local restaurants, and with the low cost of living, we weren't stressing about bills. The only things I really hated was how the main drag was impossible to traverse on Boise State game days, and the predominant political and religious views in the area...and that's all I have to say about that.I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be. - Douglas Adams

Well you might as well add Vermont to that list. Quiet as hell up here. Stores close at 9, very little street lights. Very low taxes, very little crime.
But no that far from Montreal, Albany, NYC, Boston, Syracuse, etc.Comment

I just got back and ironically, I was bit 4 times by something that I can only assume was a spider...definitely not a mosquito.
Twice on my left arm and twice on my back.
They started out like a mosquito bite, but got about the size of a nickel or quarter in diameter and then the bite marks got bigger and ended up turning black. They never really itched, but got sore like a bruise.
About 15 days later and they are still present, but are much less severe.
We made the most of our trip. There wasn't a lot of obviously cool things to do there (amusement parks, etc.), but we made the most out of our trip and the kids had a blast. The area is beautiful...mountains in every direction and there seems to be a ton of rivers and lakes...my dad's land is directly on the snake river.Comment
