Transitioning baby to their bed/room...any stories to share?
My daughter will be nine months tomorrow and I let my wife talk me into having her in the bed with us. Long story short I started putting her in her bed today, and of course the kid is screaming her head off. My fellow daddies out there, how long was it before your child quit screaming their head off and started sleeping?Tags: None -

Re: Transitioning baby to their bed/room...any stories to share?
I'm not looking forward to this. I have a seven month old girl and right now she sleeps in this cradle thing next to our bed. The babies room is on the second floor and our bedroom is on the first, so my wife and I are not looking forward to getting up in the middle of the night to walk upstairs. But we are getting pressure mostly from my parents to get her to her crib upstairs. Easier said then done.Battle.net: xXKING08Xx

its cruel to say, but you gotta let them cry. If you rock them to sleep first it helps in the beginnging, but then they get used to you rocking them and only sleep when you are holding them. I got three had to do it with all of them. its the worse when you rock them asleep they are out on you for 30 minutes you go to put them to bed and they wake up.Comment

It's been an hour and a half so far and looking at the monitor she's about to wind down for a nap I think.Comment

She's sitting up doing the jelly neck head bob right now, lol. Her head will droop down and then pop back up. Too funny. She's so sleepy it's not even funny.
I feel safer with a monitor to see her, and glad to have my PS3 to distract me from all the screaming I hear from the other room with the door closed. My baby girl has her Mama and Auntie's pipes (they are really good singers), cause you hear her from the street when she's at full volume.Comment

Re: Transitioning baby to their bed/room...any stories to share?
We moved both our son and daughter at around 3 months...neither of them ever slept in our bed, but slept in a pack n' play or swing next to our bed for the first three months.
It may have been easier because they were younger, but prior to moving them, we'd take them up to their rooms and let them chill in their crib for a few minutes here and there (while we were putting away laundry or cleaning or what not) to get used to the crib and their room. Then we'd put them down for naps in there. The transition to night time was pretty seamless for both of them.
You may have to let them cry it out a time or two...If you go in there for one reason or another, try to make it "all business"...if their blanket falls off or they lose their pacifier or what not, make sure you just go in there, put the blanket on and leave...if you console them, they are going to expect it every time.
Also, try and cross one hurdle at a time...don't try and move them and take away their pacifier at the same time...do one, let them get used to it and then attempt the other.Comment

Re: Transitioning baby to their bed/room...any stories to share?
I have three kids and I will say the first wast he hardest on sleeping or getting to sleep in theire own bedroom. We started out in a crib in our room and went through the same problems as you. My advice would be to make sure you put her to sleep for naps in her bedroom to get her used to sleeping in there. Then when you start at night make sure to let her cry. If you plan on having any more kids, start from day 1 of at least letting the kid nap in their bed once or a few times a day. My 2 year old wil not even lay ino ur bed and has a hard time sleeping anywhere else but her bed. I've been where you are and beleive me it gets better, but you have to let them cry sometimes.I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me!

We never let our daughter sleep in our bed, which I think helped. She only slept in a bassinet beside our bed for about the first 3 months, then we moved her to her crib in her room. She cried for a few days, we let her cry it out, now she's 2 and sleeps fine.Comment

Re: Transitioning baby to their bed/room...any stories to share?
For what it's worth, my brother in law let their daughter sleep in their bed out of convenience and she was in there until she was damn near 4 years old and it was an absolute horrible time trying to move her out into her own room. Because of that, my wife and I said we would never let it happen in order to avoid that habbit.
Avoid it if you can, but nip it in the bud as soon as possible. The older they get the more stubborn and set in their ways they get.Comment

Someone on facebook said "SIDS is unheard of in China." I explained the average male/female in china was 125-145 lbs and it's not called SIDS in China, it's called population control.Comment

Re: Transitioning baby to their bed/room...any stories to share?
Both of my kids slept in their crib day 1. Both started sleeping through the night between 6 and 11 weeks as well. We purchased a piece of mind monitor that monitor's movement (heartbeat, breathing, etc), so we could look at it at anytime and see if either kid was breathing normally or what not. Truly allowed us to sleep sound just about every night.Comment

Now that my daughter can communicate her feelings other than crying her excuse is that there are zombies in her room and she cant sleep there.
It is totally our fault for letting her sleep with us so often.
Nip it in the bud before its too late. Else your bed real estate and your sex life take a serious hit.Return of the MackComment
