Re: Amish are ballsy...
Indiana Amish are wild like no other.I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

I guess if you're gonna be shunned, you might as well do something worthwhile on your way out.Comment

Re: Amish are ballsy...
they say the main reason they have cell phones is for 911 and to call the people who drive them into town .... though they obviously use them for much more ... i run a pizza place and they often call in their orders on their cell phones. thing is, cell phone service in that area is awful. i can't even get a signal with my carrier.Individuality: Always remember that you are unique. Just like everybody else.

Re: Amish are ballsy...
I guess I have an ignorant view and idea of the Amish. I thought they lived off the land with little or no contact with the outside world, unless they have to. I think of the movie The Village, even though that was a Amish society...
I wonder once he was figured out if he tried to churp the tires on his buggy and lead the police on a OJ-esque chase?Comment

Re: Amish are ballsy...
Apparently they do have a time of "wilding" where they must make a choice of transitioning to the world and foregoing their Amish ways and values, or come back to the community and stay with their teachings. Sounds a bit like "Hall Pass", I know. Happens in late teenage-hood, so this guy is the Amish equivalent of the guy who stays in college way too long!
BTW, what goes "clip clop clip clop BANG! clip clop clip clop BANG!"?

Most of them still have some form of contact though because people buy their goods or they buy material, etc at local stores.Comment
