Really, Wikipedia as a verifiable source? ...

Considering that most of the references for that page go to a .gov site... and you can see how it (Aspartame) is portrayed as alright for you to consume. Also quite a few references go back to a Washington Post article... and the WP has been receiving money from the Govt to promote Obamacare to the sum of $500k+, so I am sure they promote other things as well for the Govt.

Also if you go back to the Natural News articles there are several sources referenced on the articles from other sites, etc.

    But here you go:

Analysis Shows Nearly 100% of Independent Research Finds Problems With Aspartame

An analysis of peer reviewed medical literature using MEDLINE and other databases was conducted by Ralph G. Walton, MD, Chairman, The Center for Behavioral Medicine, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Dr. Walton analyzed 164 studies which were felt to have relevance to human safety questions. Of those studies, 74 studies had aspartame industry-related sponsorship and 90 were funded without any industry money.

Of the 90 non-industry-sponsored studies, 83 (92%) identified one or more problems with aspartame. Of the 7 studies which did not find a problems, 6 of those studies were conducted by the FDA. Given that a number of FDA officials went to work for the aspartame industry immediately following approval (including the former FDA Commissioner), many consider these studies to be equivalent to industry-sponsored research.

Of the 74 aspartame industry-sponsored studies, all 74 (100%) claimed that no problems were found with aspartame. This is reminiscent of tobacco industry research where it is primarily the tobacco research which never finds problems with the product, but nearly all of the independent studies do find problems.

The 74 aspartame industry-sponsored studies are those which one invariably sees cited in PR/news reports and reported by organizations funded by Monsanto/Benevia/NutraSweet (e.g., IFIC, ADA). These studies have severe design deficiencies which help to guarantee the "desired" outcomes. These design deficiencies may not be apparent to the inexperienced scientist. Healthcare practitioners and scientists should print out the all of the documents on the Monsanto/NutraSweet Scientific Abuse web page, the Scientific FAQs web page and the Aspartame Toxicity Reaction Report Samples.
and that is just the first article there...

-Aspartame Ingestion Causes Formaldehyde Accumulation in the Body
-Aspartame and MSG Cause Painful Fibromyalgia Symptoms
    -Aspartame and Brain Tumors
    -Aspartame causes Memory Loss
    -etc, etc, etc...

Aspartame in artificially blackened water — tasty.Photo: William HartzWhen I wrote about diet soda and and its health effects last week, I didn’t expect much of a reaction. I guess in the back of my mind, I was thinking, people still drink that stuff? Well, they do — by the bucketful. Overall, U.S. soda consumption […]

Last fall, the Union of Concerned Scientists documented the sad state of regulatory-agency independence. Working with Iowa State University, the group surveyed more than 1,700 FDA and USDA employees. The findings are sobering:
More than 620 respondents (38 percent) agreed or strongly agreed that "public health has been harmed by agency practices that defer to business interests." Three-hundred-and-thirty respondents (27 percent) said they had personally experienced "instances where public health has been harmed by businesses withholding food safety information from agency investigators" in the past year. And more than 300 respondents (25 percent) said they personally experienced corporate interests forcing their agency to withdraw or significantly modify a policy or action designed to protect consumers in the past year. When asked that same question about Congress and non-governmental interests, more than 260 respondents (24 percent) and more than 240 respondents (22 percent) said yes, respectively.

Re: The most purely evil company in the World: Monsanto.

Gotta be real with you man. Getting your information from sites like naturalnews.com and holisticmed.com make it very obvious that you have an agenda of your own, and those sites clearly do as well. I came in to this thread with absolutely no opinion about any of this stuff, but seeing the clearly one-sided support for the "facts" made me at least try to play devil's advocate. Do I think you are right? Odds are likely that's true, but I will never just take someone's word for it when it is clear they have their own ideology that they are trying to sell me.

And the way you write off the Washington Post is ridiculous when you consider your own sources. Claiming they are getting paid by the gov't to write stories favorable to them is the kind of tin-foil hat garbage that just makes me stop taking you seriously. All IMHO.

You'd be surprise at how many former Monsanto employees work for the government (and vice-versa).

            Chef,

Cool cool...but just because it "sounds" like s*** like that doesn't/shouldn't happen doesn't mean that it doesn't happen.

Tin foil or not, its just a label given to discredit anything... when your ready, you'll see it for what it is.

In a blow to the autonomy of the media it has been discovered that employees of two Old Media outlets are the happy beneficiaries of hundreds of thousands of federal dollars from an Obamacare slush fund. CBS and the Washington Post have both taken large payments from Obama's Early Retiree Reinsurance Program (ERRP), with the Post getting $573,217 while CBS has received a whopping $722,388.

Matthew Boyle reported that the news of the media giants taking federal cash was revealed at a hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee last week.

As far as agenda's go... the only one I have is the truth. Not spun up lies and exaggerations that you see on the mainstream news channels. Like I said, when your ready, you'll see it for what it is.

Now I am going to officially bow out of this thread... as I am sure that a mod will come through and say its getting to "political" anyways.

Yep. This can be a good discussion but we gotta stay away from the politics.

Keep it on food, the products, the farmers, those things. I don't want to see anything about Obamacare and the government supporting that news source or whatever.

While I agree completely that politics should stay off these boards... I am always amused at the person who posts political opinions/commentary, and then bows out with the knowledge that the mods will cut off the discussion (even calling it out themselves). Talk about having your cake and eating it too!

Speaking of cake (and on topic), I wonder how much of these frankenfoods are in cake...
