These shows are all a set up for incorporating the bad acts to gain "entertainment value". I guess as they polled audiences for these American Idol formats, people wanted some acts that would be embarrassing. There are countless talented people who attend the screenings and never make it through because they can't have too many good acts. If we had those, then the "She Bangs" type performances wouldn't make it to the air and have something for people to laugh at. I mean, look at this act. This guy couldn't honestly think with a song like that combined with his mediocre singing talent that he would really have a chance. Somebody along the way would have stopped him if it was an honest attempt. It's all staged.

It is a sick premise though.

Of course it's staged, it's TV.

My view on the epidemic of reality shows is similar to The Treehouse of Horror episode where all the giant billboards become alive and destroy the town.

If people just stop looking, eventually they'll go away.

At least those are more reality than some of the Tru TV towing shows that are "re-enacted"....those are complete trash IMO.

I agree, but American Idol was pretty serious this year as far as the audition episodes were concerned. Very rarely did you get the laughingstock performances, and when you did it was all in a three minute montage. The other forty minutes were pretty serious yes/no acts.
