Re: Random meme / funny stuff thread
I was thinking the same thing. There were obviously some dbags in the video, but there also seemed like a couple people just legitimately being polite. Saying hi to her and she just keeps walking, stone faced, lol.University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Hockey

Re: Random meme / funny stuff thread
Maybe NYC is a lot friendly than I think it is, but very rarely do I have random people saying anything to me passing by on the street even if its something as minimal as "have a good day."

Re: Random meme / funny stuff thread
I'm not saying it's right. I'm saying that those who already understand this, understand it and those (like the "wolves" in the vid) who don't get it, don't get it and probably never will. You can make all the YouTube vids you want, it still comes down to character and how you were raised to treat others. In these guys' value system, they are doing nothing wrong. And what are you going to do? Flood the legal system with cat calls to every woman from every man (and they you'll have to do it conversely as well) throughout the country? An attorney could take any of those references and put the burden of proof that they were directed at her or something / someone else.Sexual harassment is protected by the first Amendment?
And of course these videos aren't going to "end" anything, but I think the general male population has no idea what women go through on a daily basis in this society and anything to show how distant the equality is a good effort improve upon that.
Again, I'm not saying it's right.
Also, outside the family, we've helped induce these attitudes via all forms of media which has already been discussed and understood ad nauseam. Publications, TV, movies, the music industry. Can't have it both ways and then complain about it. Are you ready to throw out all of your magazines, DVD's, recordings and mp3's/CD's that speak to mistreating women?Last edited by daflyboys; 10-29-2014, 10:12 AM.Comment

Re: Random meme / funny stuff thread
I posted this article link yesterday but removed it. Didn't think know this was gonna go full discussion.
The whole website has NSFW articles. Nothing graphic just articles and headlines.

Edit: Had to shorten the url, OS censored the cuss word in it and broke the link.Last edited by Mabster; 10-29-2014, 10:16 AM.Oakland Athletics San Jose Sharks

Oh I know. Its a difficult job raising a kid and even moreso trying to raise a girl to be secure and confident in themselves in this world when there's countless factors working against you.

Still, baby steps. Any move in the right direction is good even if its only an inch. Awareness is important to that.

Re: Random meme / funny stuff thread
When I was in college (went to U of Minnesota, right in Minneapolis, so there was always a ton of people on the streets of campus, students and non-students), I would say hello to people occasionally, if I made eye contact with someone. If anything, just to break the semi-awkwardness of making eye contact with a stranger. And a smile + "How's it going?" might make someone's day just a tiny bit better.
On that note, I had a Hispanic professor in college who was always baffled how people here were so shy when they met an acquaintance walking down the street. He went on a little rant about it one day: "I'll never understand why Americans see someone they know on the street and look away. When I see a former student or another acquaintance I recognize, I will smile and nod at them, but I can clearly tell they are intentionally looking away from me, or at their phone or something."

Re: Random meme / funny stuff thread
these are the same DOOFIDo they really think they're going to end "street harassment"? Sorry, but unfortunately those guys are protected by the 1st Amendment. This stuff starts at home in teaching young boys and men to respect women. And these are the same doofuses who will act this way but get all pissy when their moms and sisters are treated like dirt.
