    Shaving with a new Razor

Anyone else have this problem or have a resolution?

Every time I open up a new razor to shave my face with for the first time, I get a ton of tugging and pulling. It just overall hurts to shave...and as a result, it seems I am more prone to ingrown hairs from this.

The next several shaves on that blade are all very pleasant and smooth and easy, but it seems like on that first shave I am breaking in the blade or something. It's annoying since you only have a limited number of shaves per blade as it is.

Occasionally I get lucky and don't have to go through this, but this seems to be the rare exception to the rule.

FWIW my process is the same for every shave. I shave in the shower at the end of my shower after soaking my face in hot water and then lathering up with shaving cream and letting it sit on my face for 30 seconds or so.

Anyone else have this issue? I would think that the blade would be at it's sharpest fresh out of the box.

Also, I mix it up between brands and razors and this seems to happen across all brands and razor types. Right now, I'm using Schick Quattro Titanium blades.

I think it is pretty much the norm with new blades.......At least that is what my experience has always been.

Same here, especially with disposables. Although I did purchase a non-disposable bic Razor that was surprisingly smooth for the first shave.

Yeah the first shave with a new razor is always a little rough for me.

I actually love the 1st shave with a new blade. It's so smooth. I use a Gillette Fusion Proglide for reference.

it was that way for me too, then I started shaving as soon as i got out of a hot shower, and it made a huge difference.

Now the only time i shave is right after a hot shower.

This. If you're using the fully disposable razors where the blade is perma attached to the handle then that may by the problem. I could not use those. I use a Gillette Mach 3 where just the blade part is replaced and it's never snaggy on my first run. I've got a pretty thick, coarse beard too.

For me the first shave is the best. After that, they get progressively worse. The bigger question may be what type of shaving cream do you use.

Yeah, I use the Gilette HydroGel and Proglide blades.

I like the first shave, the best.

Same here...I switched to these blades over a wet/dry electric because it got me a better (and quicker) shave. The first shave's the best and slowly gets worse each time after.

I believe I am using Gillete Shave Gel for sensitive skin. But this is the same gel I use on shaves #2-5, where everything goes awesome.

Maybe I'll have to give ProGlide a chance.

I've had the exact opposite experience. The best shave for me is when I use the new blade for the first time.

Look into the Gillette Fusion. Best razor and blades I've ever used.

I never shave with blades anymore. I go the electric route, but then again i never shave my face smooth either.

Shaving cream works wonders. I used to shave dry, but I always used to cut myself.
