Add me to the group that dislikes some of Gamestop's policies. I hate how they open the games. I like tearing the plastic off the game myself and knowing that it is actually brand new. I usually buy games from Wal-Mart, Best Buy, or Amazon. It's nice just going into the store, buying it, and not being asked a bunch of questions. Best Buy store associates can be annoying at times, but not as bad as Gamestop.

Yeah, I try not to shop through GameStop. I tend to go to Amazon for preorders, and Best Buy for trade-ins/giftcards.

As for this incident, it doesn't shock me at all. It's aggravating how arrogant they are regarding the practice of opening a box and still opening it as new. Removing something part of the package that you get through payment is blindingly arrogant, and I think they shouldn't just be able to get away with it with just a warning. Hopefully Squeenix takes them to task on it.

Recently had that argument with one of the local gamestops, I left without buying anything.

I like gamestop just not for new games. I stick with Amazon and Walmart.

Yeah I've brought some used games from Gamestop in the past for decent prices. When I lived in Rhode Island I lived close to a really good Gamestop. They didn't ask a lot of questions, and were friendly, and actually helpful when you needed help. Some stores are better then others, as can be said for any company.

Thats what is annoying with some of these places. They will ask you if you need help and try to sell you everything in the store, but when you actually need help it's tough to get it at times.

I was always baffled at those moments where you walk in to get a game on release day but they turn you down because you didn't preorder. "Sorry, not enough copies," they'd say. Of course the Target or the Best Buy next door has a ton in stock. You'd think a store that specializes in games would have enough copies for those who want to just stop in and pick it up without any hassles.

The gamestop here, doesn't sell new games that are open. They are always sealed fresh and in a drawer. That's why they say the return policy on new games is void, once you open the wrapping.

I haven't been there in a long time. When the store first found it's way to this town, I loved it. They had all the games for the NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. at really good prices. Even their prices on the current console games were at a decent price, but now they make so much profit, but try to make the consumer feel like they are doing US a favor, when really.. we're making them more money.

The associates used to be really good help, also. Now, the ones in our store are all know-it-all pricks. The only one I like is the actual store manager.. he's a cool guy. The rest of them treat me like I'm an idiot and if I'm not interested in what they're selling.. then I don't know what I'm talking about.. I can't simply just not be interested.

Meh I stopped buying from gamestop a long time ago. When they "merged" with EB Games it was all downhill.

Used to go to EB all the time get good service, decent prices and if I ever had a question they'd spend like 5 minutes explaining it all to me. Then gamestop took over and that all went out the door.

Didn't help tho that my step dad was a pretty decorated manager for EB, but when they became gamestop he got treated terribly and eventually fired over "paperwork" so after that I just go to Walmart to buy games and now amazon.

This. It seems that a lot of the guys will look down on you based on what you're buying or not buying for that matter. Most of the gamestops in my area really seem to judge you on the purchase of any type of sports game ever. So agitating.

I don't think I have bought a game from a Gamestop in almost a year now. Too many good deals at other places and I don't have to deal with any of the extra crap you get from going into a Gamestop. I've also completely stopped trading games in. Refuse to support the Gamestop way of doing things. The fact that I don't trade in has really cut down the number of games I buy too.

I agree completely. I went to get Assassin's Creed from there a few years ago when it came out, and they gave me a "new" game that was in an opened box. I had a big argument with the cashier that I shouldn't have to pay full price for an opened game, and that I couldn't be convinced that the game hadn't been played already. I ended up leaving and buying the game at Best Buy.

Luckily, the one across the street from my apartment is a good store. Every new game I've bought from there has been sealed and I've gotten to know a couple of the employees fairly well. After this saga though, I might be done buying/trading games there unless they have good deals going on. This is ridiculous.

I'm confused. If you already bought the game for retail price, why would you want to download another copy of the SAME game for free? Wouldn't customers just buy the game, take out the coupon and download the game for free, then return the paid for version themselves?

Anyways, I've gotten virtually all of my games and peripherals from EB/Gamestop for years and have never had any problems. The employees never hound me and all my new games have still been in their wrapper. I also virtually never buy used games. Bought a used controller once, but it failed after 2 weeks so never again. As for trade-in value, it depends on the game. I wouldn't expect to get much for annual release sports titles, but when I traded in my PS2 Silent Hill games, I got $10+ for each of them and it was years after they originally released.
