Getting stolen items back from pawn shop.
What are the chances of getting a stolen bicycle back from a pawn shop? I haven't checked the ones in town yet, but my bike was stolen over the summer from my brothers garage. The ******* never noticed that it was just gone one day. I live in a college town, so the use of bikes is pretty high. I figure I might find it either at a pawn shop or see some moron riding it around. Pretty much the only way to identify it is mine is before I had it, my dad has his name on it in stickers. Even if they peel them off there is bound to be uneven fading. Do I need to file a police report, or will they just blow it off since it is just a bike?Tags: None -
It would probably be best to file a police report. Do you have the receipt or something?
Do you really care where I sent this from?MLB: Texas Rangers

File a police report, or else you have no way to get it back from the pawn shop, other than buying it back.
If there are unique identifying marks on the bike, make sure you tell the officer, and make sure he files a report on it, and not just Attempts to Locate it. If you file a report, and find it at the pawn shop, notify the reporting agency, and let them know that you've found it. Often we can get them released to you, and at that point it's up to the pawn shop owner to press charges against the person who pawned a stolen item.Twitter - WTF_OS

File a police report and make sure you have serial numbers of items or a identifying factor to give to the officer
Mention that you saw it at a local pawn shop. Most pawn shops are required to take ID from whoever pawns the item. Police will take it from there with identifying suspect and getting your property back. You will most likely have to show up for the court case.Texas A&M Aggies

Eh think I am screwed. I don't even know the make or model of it. It could have been taken the day after I left in May for all I know.Comment

Ya I really didn't think it through before I made the thread. I am gonna go from a respectable looking bike to one of the cheaper ones wal mart has. A BMX bike.Comment
