Job Hunting Help

Here's my current situation. My wife just got her first teaching job 2.5 hours away near the Seattle area. Naturally, I'm not going to stay at my current job. My employer has to assume that I'm job hunting since they know my situation, but I have not directly come out and said "I'm looking to move and find something new."

Anyway, I've never had to really look for a full-time job. My current job is my first full-time position I've ever had. I've been here 3 full years, plus 3 months of an internship beforehand. Before that, I was in college.

Any tips on what websites I should be looking at or where I should be looking? I've already scoured all the major players in the Seattle area (Amazon, Boeing, Microsoft, etc.) and I don't really know if Career Builder, Craigslist, etc. have actual legit jobs and not a bunch of just entry level sales crap. I graduated with degrees in Marketing and Sports Management and after doing sales for the past 3 years, I need a change of pace away from sales.

As cool as working in pro sports has been, it's definitely time to spend more time with my wife. Any help to point me in the right direction?

Careerbuilder actually has some good jobs that they'll give you. Most job sites like that are pretty basic unless you pay for premium services, but I've found some decent looking jobs from careerbuilder recently.

I'm also on LinkedIn, which isn't a job site but is a good way to make connections in the area. It's kind of like facebook for jobs. I got a coaching/lessons gig from that and I've noticed that there are a LOT of companies that are there. It seems to be a pretty decent networking site.

Also MAKE SURE YOU BROWSE THE NEWSPAPER WANT ADS.

I can't stress that enough, companies don't put every job opening online, some jobs they put in newspapers ONLY. Especially when it comes to companies located outside of a major city.

I lost count of how many high paying car dealership, bank and hospital jobs they had in newspapers looking for IT people and business & market specialist.

in our state, worksource is good...indeed.com is good... actually for a startup etc, craigslist works

Seconded. This is sound advice, both are good sources.

Indeed.com is essentially the google for job searches as it pulls from the other job posting (monster, careerbuilder, dice, etc.).

I use SimplyHired. Lots of good listings and pretty easy to use.

Monster sucks. Fruitless.

CareerBuilder sends me emails with a good chunk of listings every now and again.

Haven't had any luck yet though.

Thanks for the advice fellas, I'll look into some of those. I have a few connections around the area too, so hopefully they can be useful. I do have LinkedIn, and some of those jobs aren't bad.

The top 3 that I am using currently are Indeed, SimplyHired, and Craigslist (which actually does have alot of legit postings for local companies). I use CareerBuilder only when one of the job postings from Indeed/SimplyHired comes directly from that site, and I've found Monster to be quite useless.
