In hockey there was a guy in this years draft who was born on that very date.

A crazy story for his parents since he was born 3 months prematurely, almost didnt make it, and his parents had no idea what had happened in the outside world until the next day.


On a diff note, the moment on Big Brother 2 is one of the realest moments ever on any reality show. Locked in a house, cutoff from the outside world, nobody in that house knew what even happened when most of the world not only knew about it but probably have seen a TV at some point that day. It wasnt until later that they were told what happened, and one person's cousin was missing(and didnt make it).


It always puts in to perspective how different everyone's experience from this is. A single horrific moment can have so many different "where were you when" moments. You can both relate to and sympathize with others who had the "where were you when" moment.

I live in NY and I was in my bed still sleep after a long night of parting in the City a few blocks from the trade center, My mother didn't know what time time I got home and didn't even know if I was, she called me in a panic making sure I was home, and then My Bleep on my Nextel was going off like crazy with friends telling me what happened until I turned the news on and watched as the second plane hit, what a awful day it was.

Obviously this year is another big anniversary. Can't believe it's been 20 years.

I saw some news specials on it. In one of them it was about a nearby high school that also had to scramble and evacuate (and some kids just hopped on the ferry to escape). Those high school kids are now in their mid to late 30s! Seems natural hearing these old people talking about horrific events of past generations, but then it still takes time to sink in that something like that which will be talked about forever is part of our present generation.

Also saw a chilling video where they just showed a morning shows intro for that very day. Morning shows of course begin early in the morning, so you just see a normal morning show intro on September 11 with the towers and the skyline. Very well could have been the last recorded footage of the towers before everything happened.

I’ve had stretches where I’m obsessed with 9/11 coverage and documentaries and such, so I think I’ve seen most of the networks when they aired “as it happened.” It’s pretty incredible.

I was a sophomore in college. That day had and still has a profound affect on me to this day.

I would like to know how many Americans feel the same. I think it would be interesting to poll people on how much it affected them.

I was at school (in my early teens), you heard rumblings throughout the day but I didn't really knew what was going on until I got out of school (I think I got out that day at about 2:30/3:00?). In those days I took the bus to my grandma's house until my dad or mom picked me up later in the evening. There was this small room for me where I would watch the Simpsons/Pokemon etc. and when I turned the TV on there it was: the Towers with smoke coming out of them, I was stupefied.

I think this is the first time I have share this anecdote with anyone besides my brother, so here it goes. That day, someone came into class and relayed to my teacher in his/her ear what was happening, I imagine something to the effect "planes have struck the Twin Towers/US in an apparent terrorist attack" and he/she smiled/laughed a bit. I went to a school known for their left-wing politics (I really didn't realized that at the moment), but that moment definitely stuck with me. It starts to crystallize issues in your mind. With time, my recollection of it has become fuzzy (was it a chuckle or a laugh?) and I wish I could ask my friends if they remember it: "did you notice anything memorable during X's class on 9/11"? But I can't since his/her son/daughter was in my student class (graduated same year) so I can't dare to go around and ask about it.

Tomorrow is the 20th anniversary and I think I will rewatch a YouTube video I downloaded years ago (and has been deleted since, but I started downloading all the videos I add to "my favorites" precisely because they can get deleted) which basically is a mesh of a bunch of videos of people who jumped from the Towers. It is unbelievably depressing, but I rather watch that than rah-rah documentaries about how people rallied etc.

People couldn't get out, and needed to decide if they wanted to die while burning/from asphyxiation or jumping to their deaths. It is a way of cutting through the bull**** and the narratives.

Can’t believe it’s been 20 years.

I was in Mr. Lewis’s US History class when the school secretary stuck her head in and asked him to come over and she whispered something to him. I instantly picked up on his demeanor changing.

We were taking a test because it wasn’t for a few minutes before he announced that a plane has hit the World Trade Center. Unfortunately, the TV in the classroom didn’t work, so here I am thinking a Cessna has flown into it.

The magnitude of the day’s events didn’t become clear till I got to Mr. Greene’s chemistry class and saw the news coverage. My first thought was why is there only one tower. The news coverage brought so many confusing feelings. Sadness, fear, anger. People jumping from the towers. The collapse of the north tower. Those are images that will stay with me forever.

It was our generation’s Pearl Harbor. Our generation’s JFK assassination. A moment that you will always remember where you was at. Every single, minute detail.

Montreal, on my way to university anthropology class. I was walking on the street and saw people in front of windows looking at tv's just like out of a movie. I had my headphones in and took them out when I noticed how weird everyone was behaving. I saw some video of ny and people everywhere - perfect stragers were explaining what was going on "what happened???" "there was an attack!" "a plane flew into the world trade tower"

it was crazy - then at McGill University no one was going to class and no professors were there - nobody cared about their day. Same with local employees, everything stopped and everyone just sort of dropped their responsibilities. I remember seeing the 2nd plane hit the building live in a student building with a tv in it while watching with some people I knew. Shrieks ensued - was surreal.

After that I remember seeing fire trucks moving around all with American flags hanging off the back. McGill is also heavy on international students, especially Americans, MANY from NYC and Boston so it was hard on a lot of people I knew personally. Many of them went home and were frantic to get ahold of their family and loved ones.

It was something else, very surreal. I certainly will never forget.

I was in high school when they made the overhead announcements. My class at the time stopped what they were doing and turned on the tv. After that, they let us out for the rest of the day.

On my way to work in NJ where my building is across from the NY skyline giving me an eye-witness account. I didn't see the planes strike the buildings but learned from my colleague's that a second plane strike just occurred when I joined them on the roof. What I did see as I stood there in place which felt like an eternity was the collapse of the two towers. Looking above in the sky I saw an F16 patrolling the area. This picture is engrained in my mind.

Had a flight today from Albany back to Southern California and the pilot flew a bit south to fly by New York with a view of Freedom Tower.

There's a new docuseries made this year, a collaboration between National Geographic and the 9/11 Museum, it's called 9/11: One Day in America.

So far it consists of eyewitness accounts from survivors, with real actual footage of that day from body cams, camcorders, etc.

I'm watching it on Hulu, not sure where else it's available.

EDIT: I can definitely tell it's gonna be a rough watch. There's a lot of never-before-seen footage, at least stuff I hadn't seen before.

I watched this on the 10th. It was really well done. Like you said, lots of footage I had never seen before.

The video where they're filming the firefighters in the north tower and you hear the sound of people who have jumped/fallen from the tower hitting the building was disturbing

yeah, it's like a true crime fascination, you're curious about the intricacies, but the realness can be too much


I don't like going through the 9/11 stuff again, it's not easy
