    Acid Reflux

Has anyone had experience with this? My doctor thinks this is what I could have based on symptoms. Only at nighttime, I have this horrible cough/choking thing that's been going on for a little over a year. I have to pop an allergy pill that knocks me out in order to fall asleep. I have a prescription for Nexium and I'm gonna give it a shot. She also mentioned that I would have to eliminate a lot of acids from my diet as well. Hopefully, this is what's causing my cough, because if it's not, I don't know what else to do.

I deal with the same thing, actually. Happened last night, even. It sucks. I think it's because I eat so late. I don't get off work until 11, so my eating options are near midnight. I have acid reducer pills that usually get the job done, but not once that cough starts.

My wife has it.......she has to drink maalox EVERY night before she goes to bed. And she can't eat tomato based products often, you know pizza, tacos, etc.

She is also takes stomach pills several times a day EVERYDAY as well.

I get this once in awhile. Pizza is a trigger for me. Over the counter Prilosec has worked for me, and also avoiding spicy and tomato based foods, and eating late at night.

Been with a couple of women who have that problem. Hit up your best friend, Google. There's a lot of stuff out there that triggers it (that are pretty easy to avoid) as well as things to do to help.

            Re: Acid Reflux

I've had acid reflux/stomach/heartburn problems since I was a kid. Always had a sensitive stomach, was on two acid reducers when I was like 12, and now I'm 23 and I take Nexium. Nexium is a miracle drug, pretty much.

I get heartburn eating pretty much anything. Doesn't have to be "red". It's the worst.

I recently (3 months ago) started getting acid reflux. Like most people have already said, it usually happens late at night. The first time it felt like I was going to die....my throat was on fire for what felt like eternity.

I take prilosec OTC. It definitely helps.

                Re: Acid Reflux

Acid reflux sucks. It didn't matter what I ate I got reflux, no matter what time of day I get reflux. Had to eat handfuls of Tums all day till I was prescribed the wonder drug Nexium.
I've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

                  Yep.
I've been getting this since the Trade Center.
I have to take Prilosec every day or I will get that coughing/choking/acid in the throat so bad I think I'm going to vomit.
Dropping weight has helped me cut back to 4-5 times a week instead of 7 days a week though.

Is it the feeling where you kind of get a "neck growling" sensation, like stuff starts to want to come up through your esophagus and then just rolls back down?

If so, I've had it since I was about thirteen years old. I normally get it after having spaghetti, or something else with a tomato base.

I couldn't take it anymore and my wife and I went to the ER, where I found out I had pneumonia.

I'll be on meds throughout the weekend. Hopefully, I won't have to miss work.

you need more acid, not less. try apple cider vinegar from health store after consulting nutritionist. I would seek a QRA practitioner. google them. Thats ur best bet. You dont have a Nexium deficiency

just saw ur last post. I hope you heal well. And take a boat load of Vit C. Camu camu is the best and it is a natural pain reliever. Fruitrients brant from wholefoods is very good

Yeah, that's the feeling. I didn't know what it was until I had it one night. We were at the beach staying in a hotel and I woke up in the middle of the night and didn't know what was going on.

I think it was from a sour watermelon chewey candy I had been eating, along with a mint chocolate fudge from a candystore. The sour and the mintiness kind of mixed and messed me up.

I get off late too sometimes and if I eat something like pizza and drink soda a bit before bed, it'll hurt my stomach and sometimes burn the esophagus. Just don't eat late.

Bro I have it aswell. Best thing is do what your doctor tell you. Try to stay away from alot of the greasy fried foods and rich sauces and stuff like that as mush as possible. Because trust me if your acid reflex gets bad enough. Then sooner or later it will make you feel like you are having a heartattack. Acid reflex can be a bad thing if left untreated. I have acid reflux myself and it can get bad sometime. It ain't fun one bit. Just follow the doctor advice and take care of yourself. The best way to treat yourself.
