Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
I posted a couple of weeks ago about how the basement of the house we were building flooded after a heavy rain. Last week it rained about an inch, and the basement filled up with at least 4 inches of water throughout. We told the builder we wanted out of the contract, and on Sunday he agreed to let us out, and said he would draw up paperwork to cancel the contract. He did tell us we would lose our downpayment though. Tuesday we talked to him, and told him we really needed the paperwork, and he said he would make it a priority. Now he is saying he never told us we could get out, and he expects us to close on the house. We had already contacted a lawyer to attempt to get our money back, so we're meeting with him this afternoon. This whole process sucks, because we can't buy another house until this gets taking care of, and the builder is blatantly lying to us. We think he knows he screwed up on the house, so he's trying to force us to take it.Comment

^^ Man that is horrible. It sucks that what should be a great event in your life, has turned into such a headache.
One would think that like would be some type of protection when building a home and running into problems like that.

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
Documentation is key......never trust anybody and take their word on it. Should have taken some pics of all that water. Reminds me of the 1st house I got in Indiana. Woman swore up and down it didn't flood in that area. Even though I notice all the outlets in the basement were waist high, I thought nothing of it.
Winter ended, 1st spring storm and I ended up with 4 feet of water in my basement. Talked to my neighbors and they said oh that bitch lied, it floods all the time out here unless you have a back flow valve installed. Then went on to tell me that was the reason why the last home owner was selling the house. They had 6 feet of water in the basement and that was when they had all the outlets raised.
Ever since then I don't trust realtors, home inspectors or anybody involved in selling a house. People can be shady.Comment

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
We took a lot of pictures of the water in the basement. If we could have gotten the contract release in writing when he said it we would have. I think he thinks we're young and naive and will just give in, but my wife and are aren't like that at all. My last job was at a local tv station, and I still have some contacts there I can use to try and get a story on this. He told us before he's planning on expanding in this area and doesn't want bad publicity, but he's going to get some now. It's one thing to try and keep us in the contract, it's another to lie to our face after agreeing to let us out.Comment

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
We finally got some really good news today. The bank got a copy of the appraisal for our house, and it's almost $15,000 less than the contract price. The bank is denying our loan, which will hopefully make it a lot easier to get out of the contract now.Comment

After all the drama with the last potential buyers of our house, we just received our best offer yet. The buyers offered us more but it had been appraised a little lower. Needless to say, since everything was completed during the last process, this house should be sold soon. Still keeping fingers crossed since I know very well what could happen until I officially hand over the keys.

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
We were out shopping and checked out a Goodwill for some cool furniture we could refurb/refinish. We need a vacuum (ours died, and theoretically we were getting a new Dyson as a wedding gift, but that's not until May).
We see a Dyson DC07 at Goodwill for 60 bucks, with all the tools, and it works lol. We were just about to buy some 40-60 buck cheapo vacuum, but found that.
Pretty sweet, though everything else at Goodwill was pretty crappy. No good furniture pieces she likes (she likes to find cool older stuff she can fix up), but even if it's just until May the Dyson's amazing.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned
I just had a pretty tough week, but the end is in sight and it should be a very happy one.
Last week, I got a call from my agent and he told me that our buyers' loan was about to go through. This was three weeks earlier than expected. He told us to prepare ourselves to be out of our house in four days! At this point, we had barely started the packing process so the stress of having to get all the way out of our house that fast was nuts.
Their loan went through and sure enough, we had four days to get out.
I had to take a few days off to make this happen. We got out just in time and our loan should be done anywhere from 12-24 days from now. We are currently in limbo, staying at my mom and dad's 75 miles from our home, but we're making it work... The thing I dislike the most is that we did not get to have the luxury of an organized move due to the time issue, so our stuff is spread out over three locations and moving in is going to be a pain.
Oh well, I'll count my blessings that things are looking great so far and I have great friends who let me store my stuff, saving me from spending money on a storage shed.Comment

Trust me man, moving is no fun and hardly can be organized to make it fun anyway lol
I had to move my whole place in one day without help.. imagine how that feltComment

There's always way more stuff to pack than you realize you have! Remember that....what seems like it'll be "easy" probably won't be.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment
