Just go to "YouTube University" and see how it looks from there. That's what I do anyway. I fixed my washer, dishwasher and garbage disposal just by looking at videos.

Its very easy. Even if it was gas, its one simple connection which requires a wrench lol.

Now as far as the most difficult part.....moving it into position. Outside of that its just cutting off the water, connection your water lines, light pilot light(if gas), then cut the water one.

As far as home DIY stuff, its one of the easier jobs.

My dad's going to help me tackle it, and he's concerned about connecting it to the copper pipes. The new one will probably be a bit shorter than the old one. But in that case, you just use the shark-bite from what I can tell. It doesn't seem that difficult, but I got excited when I unclogged my garbage disposal.

Using shark bite fittings could not be simpler. Make a mark 1" from the end of the pipe and push the fitting onto the pipe to the mark. That's it. I was scared to turn my water on the first time I used them because I couldn't believe something so easy would actually work. The beauty of them is the pipe doesn't need to be dry, unlike soldering.

New water heater installed. You guys were right, it was a lot easier than I was anticipating. And with the Shark-bite on there now, it will be even easier going forward.

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned

My fiancé and I are currently in the process of buying a house, knew it was going to be stressful and it has certainly has been. The main problem we are having stems from the fact that we are not married so the financing can be in my name, her name, or both; the interest rate will be better if it's in just one of our names.

It was originally going to be in my name so we could take advantage of the NYS loan program for veterans but since the down payment was going to come from my fiancé it would have to be a gift from her and we would have to pay taxes on it. So we decided that we would just do it in her name, it's still a good rate but not as good as my rate. Now the problem is that since its in her name but my name will be on the title (so we can take advantage of veteran tax discounts) the lawyer is concerned my fiancé could be taking a risk by adding me to the title.

Hopefully we can get back on track this week.

We are redoing our tv room and I just tackled the project of adding another floor register to the room. It was actually pretty easy and saved a ton of money doing it myself. My wife did have some anxiety when I was cutting a hole in the floor, lol.

Why is the rate lower for one or the other, but not for both you?

Likely credit rating. The dealership had to pull some strings when we bought my fiance's car because they couldn't get my rate initially with her on it since her credit wasn't as good. They have to consider their credit because if you don't pay, they are relying on them.

What? VA loans don't need a down payment. Find a different lender, they are screwing you over.

I have never had to put any money down for closing costs or any other costs with a VA loan. I am pretty sure that is the case for anyone.

Its not a VA loan, it's a NYS veteran loan, it has a very good interest rate. It's basically for veterans who want a good deal but have the money for a down payment. Doesn't matter though as my fiancé is going to have the mortgage in her name.

We have pretty similar credit rating, I have no idea why the interest rate is better when its just one of us on the mortgage. We fiancé just got back from the lender and we apparently are all set now.

Unless you're putting down a lot of $ to significantly reduce the monthly mortgage I'd rather hold onto the cash and either put it into the house via upgrades/renovations OR make double-payments on the mortgage for a while.

Thinking the same thing, but that's just how I would do it.

Regardless, congrats Cuse on the home purchase.

Upstate NY is a bit different from other parts of the country in regards to property and property taxes, our taxes are about the same as our mortgage. As it stands right now, we will be able to easily pay every month. Since my coborrower would be my fiancé we would still need a downpayment as we're not married.

The rate we're getting is comparable with that of a VA loan, our real savings is going to be my veteran discounts on our taxes. I'm just happy we're moving along now, can't wait to have a awesome media room.
