Do any of you use services like TruGreen for your yard? Our yard needs help so I'm considering getting professionals to come in and do all the treatments to help get it looking nice again.

      Never used TruGreen.

I just left Home Depot. Have some parts of the yard that hasn't filled in so I had to buy some grass seed. Total overload for a newbie like myself with so many options.

I'm like what the hell is Bermuda grass?

I just want the green stuff that springs up.

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned

So I randomly get a letter from my mortgage company Friday.

        It reads
"We have received a cancellation notice from the above Insurance company."

        Insurance Co: Occidental Fire
        Policy # - LAPxxxxxxxx

So I call my mortgage company confused and asked what is going on.
        1) I don't have Occidental Fire
        2) That is not my policy number
        3) They made a payment to my real insurance company Aug 2015
        4) My policy does not expire until Aug 2016

So they tell me they have no record of any of that and no record they made a payment of over $2,000 just recently. They also show my insurance expired in March of 2016.

At this point I'm furious and ask how long has this been going on AND where did they send the money.....of course they couldn't answer. Here is where is gets stupid, so I call my insurance company and explain to them what is going on. They pull the folder and guess what they have, a check from my mortgage company from where they paid.

Unreal..........amazing that if they would of never sent me this letter I'd never would of known they had all their records screwed up. Some how they must of crossed my records with someone else.

I use a local company and love it. Summer is busy enough so I'll let someone else fertilize my lawn for $300.

I used to use TruGreen, but their customer service was beyond terrible, so I switched to a local company.

              Yes you do.

We've got the same problems. Dead grass spots and spots where wire-grass took over last year. Honestly it doesn't seem like doing spot grass seed is terribly hard - just have to keep it moist (pause).

Who do you use? I use Turf Doctor (TDI) and they have my yard looking good. When I moved into the house in the fall of 2012 the backyard was pretty weedy, by the next summer it was mostly gone. Looks great weed-wise out there now. It's $684 for the whole year (around 10 applications I think).

Right now, I use NitroGreen. Weed-wise, my yard typically looks pretty good. I've got lots of bare patches though that I didn't use to have. Most of that is due to shade.

I pay $48 per application, and I think it's 8 applications per year. A lot of my neighbors use Fairway Lawns, and their yards look good. I'm tempted to see how much they cost.

Re: For all of you guys who are homeowners or newly owned

We closed on our house in Mesa, Arizona on Tuesday! It was a LONG 5 days to get to closing, that's for sure. Had to bump our departure out of Colorado up a day early due to expected snow, and it's a good thing we did as we just missed a storm that dumped 9 inches and closed Ratone Pass for several hours. Luckily, my wife's aunt lives in Santa Fe, so we stayed with her one night and then added an extra night onto our hotel stay in Arizona.

Had a couple of miscommunications with if I was doing the closing in Colorado or Arizona (I had said Arizona the entire time, but not surprised lines got crossed between title company, realtor and bank), but got everything straightened out and signed everything yesterday. Truck unloaded and now unpacking has started.

Here's a few photos. I'll share more interior ones once we get some rooms set up the way we want them.

Don't trust TruGreen, Scott's or any of the those national companies. There is so much pressure on the tech's to do so much work in a week that most begin "ghosting" lawns just to get all the work done. "Ghosting" means just showing up and putting the sign in the yard and moving on.

House is starting to pull together. With both of us working from home (my office in AZ doesn't open up until May 2), it's helped us put a good dent into unpacking and cleaning. We've got around 10 boxes left to go through, so hopefully by this time next week, those will be done.

Today we picked out a new kitchen table, chairs, a couple of bar stools (we will use the countertop as a breakfast/lunch/extra seating area) and new bedroom set. Those all get delivered on Saturday. All that's left after this is to get new patio furniture, but that'll be in a month or two.

For those that have a pool ... any tips on maintenance/cleaning? I've been skimming the water every day and I know we have to get a cover ASAP. There's a pool store down the road from us so I'm going to stop in and see if someone can show my wife and I how to properly use the equipment and make sure all of our settings are right.

I've had above-ground pools as a kid, but this is clearly more involved than that, haha.
