If this happened here I would be in shock, but in China not so much.

I'm shocked she is still alive, hopefully her condition approves. There is nothing more to say about those scumbags who ignored her, it's unbelievable.

That's the amazing thing about the bystander effect. It seems so impossible to believe that no one would do anything, but there have been some pretty remarkable findings in various studies that show it's a pretty common psychological phenomenon.

I would like to think that I would've done something to help (and having an understanding of the bystander effect would probably make me more likely to) but you just never know until you're in a situation like that.

Just a little side note; this effect is why they tell you to tell a specific person to call "911," instead of just yelling for someone to do it. The majority of people assume that someone else will do something.

Maybe in most cases yeah. I know for a fact I would've helped here, I have a young child and if it had been my kid I would've prayed someone would have had the human decency to help.

Then again, wtf was the kids parents?

My friend said this is what happened at the end (since its not in english)

it's the dad and he's talking about how he got a phone call. at first he thought it was a friend calling to console him, but it ended up being the driver of one of the cars. he said he was sorry, but the way he said it wasn't sincere. he said if he had seen truly seen her then he wouldn't have run over her. also, the dad said the driver offered him money because he was sorry, but the dad said he didn't want his money because what he did was a terrible thing. and in the end, money wouldn't be able to buy back the young girl

From stuff I've heard/read, this is less bystander effect and more of people trying to avoid "traps" (as sad as it sounds). A Chinese guy told me this type of stuff is fairly commonplace there. He said there was an incident where someone fell down and hurt themselves and when someone tried to help him up, he said that person pushed them and caused them to get hurt. Then he sued them and they had to pay for something like 40% of his hospital bills.

So a lot of these people used that same rationale fearing they'd be blamed for it and capitalized on I suppose. Regardless, any way you look at it is heartless and cruel if you ask me. Ish is sad and pathetic.

That might be a plausible reason if the person in question wasn't 3-4 years old, if that.

If people really think they're going to get swindled by a toddler, well.. You're right, that is just sad. I mean, it's not like the poor kid wasn't bleeding to death on the ground.

The saddest part of all when people say "what's the world coming to?" This is nothing compared to how terrible things may get.

Saw this in the news the other day but thankfully, they stopped just before the little girl got hit. I was just staring in disbelief at how not one person stopped and at the very least, call for help.

Also, being female in some countries....not so good.(I'm not saying that was part of the actual event...but afterwards...the "outrage" is not equal to if it was a male....IMO)

It is actions by people like this... that justifies why a lot of people will shed more tears over the wild animal slaughter in Ohio rather than when men and women are killed in wars.

People have such a bad nature to them sometimes, where animals operate instinctively (much like a child).

So disgusted to see something like this. But it does not shock me. People suck!

Where was the little kids parents? It seems like a lot time lapsed before they found her?

Did that one lady pull the child to the side and then just walk off?

Everyone is so quick to blame the bystanders, but honestly, where was the mom and why wasn't she watching her 2 year old child for what seemed like almost 15 minutes?
