Since we're a public school we only get limited practice time. And the coaches always either want to spend it practicing on the water, or on the erg:

So it leaves out any good time for lifting.

It may have came off wrong, I don't want to gain weight, I want to gain muscle (which will result, in me gaining weight). I'm the skinniest guy in the top boat, but I manage to keep up with them (probably my height and cardio) I think if I get to the muscle level where they are then I cOuld be really good.

Yeah, I'm on our rowing team.

And we compete nationally. Freshman year, I was on our freshman A boat that got third at nationals. Last year I was on the 2nd varsity as a sophomore. And this year for the fall season (in rowing it's fall and spring season) I was on the top varsity boat and we got 7th at head of the Charles (which is the biggest regatta in the world, and we were the fastest public school in the youth event)

It's just that I am easily the skinniest kid on my boat, but I manage to be just as strong as must of them. So if I add muscle I think I could be very strong. And It would help getting recruited to college

Honestly, if you're already as strong as the rest of the guys on your team, I wouldn't worry too much. People grow at different rates. I was similar to you at 16 where I was skinny as a rail. I ended up having a growth spurt when I was 18 and then again at 22 (mass rather than height).

I wouldn't worry about trying to get bigger at 16 because your body is still developing. If anything, trying too hard can cause your body more harm than good. If a college coach knows what he's doing, he's going to see that you have strength without much size, and will be able to mold you with their own program. That's more desirable to a college coach than someone who is already bigger, as they may be done growing.

You're a perfect candidate for cross-fit. You will get very strong and they focus a lot on legs, back and rowing. We use machines very similar to the one you posted above. I think cross-fit with your leverage (height) would make you a bigger monster when rowing.

I'll definitely look into that. You just listed the two most important aspects of rowing: legs and back

You need to put on weight as well.

Keep your eating habits, add in a ton of carbs and you should see a weight increase. Want to know a good source of this? Bagels with peanut butter between each meal. Small bowl of pasta and sauce with each meal (lunch/dinner).

It's also simple mathematics - take in more calories than you burn off in a given day. Ask you parents to take you to a nutritionist and they can help you set a meal plan that you can stick with.

Even just 2 months of something like this can have you put on 10 pounds.
