Whoa, long time no see.

And it looks like the guy doing the facepalming in that pic has a hyperextedible or broken thumb.

My thumb does that too. I never realized most people's thumbs don't bend backwards until I was like 15.

They said they wanted a range. I wrote a whole big thing about my current salary and used a cost of living calculator to try to get it to what Eugene is, and then said at the end that I was negotiable. I dunno. I figured the more information I gave them that informed my decision, they could see where I was coming from.

Either way, it's fairly more likely I undersold myself than asked for too much.

Why do you ask?

How bad do you think you undersold yourself?

See, that's something I don't know. I don't have an intense knowledge of Eugene's SoftDev salary range, and I know I'm below average here in Blacksburg. Looking at Glassdoor and Salary.com, I've put myself just under the median for an SE I (but way under the median for an SE II, which I'm about to be promoted to here), but I'm not sure.

Hey math guys, real quick can I perhaps get the answer to these two problems?

7 + 3lnx = 6
and

log(x+2) with base 2 - log(x-5) with base 2 = 3

(Sorry, don't know how to do subscripts on the computer. 2 is the subscript, obviously)

1) 7 + 3lnx = 6

3lnx = -1

lnx = -1/3

2) log(x+2) with base 2 - log(x-5) with base 2 = 3

log2((x+2)/(x-5)) = 3

2^3 = (x+2)/(x-5)

8 = (x+2)/(x-5)

8x-40 = x+2

7x = 42
