I wouldn't even call vampires a fad. They've been around for quite awhile. There's a section at one of the Barnes and Noble's that I go to called, "Paranormal Teen Romance." That **** is a fad that just uses vampires and whatnot in the stories. Is most of it awful? Absolutely, but it's not a fad if its been around consistently for nearly 20 years.

Vampire movies have been popular since I can remember. Lost Boys, Fright Night, Once Bitten, etc. All from the 80s.

Vampire fad been around since 1997 with Buffy the Vampire series that lasted 6 years, then Angel the Buffy series spin off lasted 5 years.

Then you have True Blood series that was on HBO
